The Otherworldly Adventures of a Super Naive Girl

Chapter 177: The Feng Family

Chapter 177: The Feng Family

In the ancient eastern country, inside the Feng house.[notes]

Old Man Feng was having a fit. More specifically he was yelling at his son, the current head of house, Feng Hang.

What do you call this?! Dared to propose to a male classmate right after starting school! Dared to bring a baby to raise at school! Oh that girl is so good, our Feng family reputation is completely in tatters because of her! His voice got louder as he spoke.

Youre to blame for this! he said, not forgetting to include his daughter-in-law. How did you raise her?! How could you let her be like this?! I know the child is not gifted so I never expected her to make a name for herself. I just prayed she wouldnt ruin the family name!

But look at what she did! Pregnant so young! And we dont even know who the father is![notes] We send her to the countryside to raise the baby with some face. Maybe it would toughen her up a bit! See if she gets smarter!

Who knew shed leave! And without a single word! Does she even see us as family?! Tell me, what kind of white wolf did you give birth to?!?

Father, you cant blame Xiao Wu for that. The village was ransacked. It must have been hard for her to survive. Madam Lan, who was Feng Hangs wife, said as tears flowed down her cheeks. Thinking about her daughters plight made her heart ache.

Xiao Wu hadnt inherited her talent for magic nor the Fengs family talent for the sword. No one in the Feng family cared but outsiders were another story. It distressed Madam Lan every time Xiao Wu was hurt by the gossip.

When Xiao Wu got pregnant and refused to reveal the fathers identity, Grandfather Feng had sent her to the countryside. He had said she was disowned, but of course he hadnt meant it. It was all bluster and anger.

Xiao Wu was originally supposed to only be banished for two years. Madam Lan never expected the village to be ransacked and burned to the ground. Thinking Xiao Wu was dead, she had locked herself in her room and cried for a month. Around this time Grandpa Feng, with some difficulty, had found out Xiao Wu was still alive. Not only that, but shed been accepted into Xingguang Holy Academy!

Her heart had exploded with happiness at the news. She would be able to see Xiao Wu again! Her poor baby! She had planned to put in lots of good words to her father-in-law so Xiao Wu could return home early. But who knew something like this would happen![notes] Madam Lan missed her daughter sorely. At this rate, would she ever be able to see her baby again?!

The more Madam Lan thought about Xiao Wu, the more her tears flowed.

Feng Tian silently put a hand on his mother's shoulder to comfort her.

Father, maybe there was a misunderstanding. The only one in Xiao Wus heart is Feng Hang didnt have to say it. Who in their family didnt already know the object of Xiao Wus adoration? Shed had a secret crush on, Qui Bai , Tians close friend for ages now.

It doesnt matter who she likes, the matter of her proposing has already spread all over school. I heard this from the vice principals own mouth. Losing face in front of his rival really annoyed Grandfather Feng. The animosity between the two old men was common knowledge. Both had outrageous temperaments! He wished he could do something with his disappointing granddaughter. He wished he could put her back in her mothers womb and just redo the entire thing!

But its not like Xiao Wu to confess so publicly, Madam Lan whispered.

Feng Wu tended to be extreme and coarse but she was a shy girl at heart. How could she be so bold as to confess to someone that way? She had had a crush on Qui Bai for ten years and never once confessed. She only dared write love letters, but never dared speak it out loud.

It was a point everyone in the family had thought of well everyone but Grandfather Feng. He was too incensed to think straight. But after a good meal his head cleared and he realized it as well, so he mercifully stopped scolding this son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Madam Lan followed behind her husband and hesitated to ask for Feng Wu to come back early. Xiao Wu had always been pampered, but now she was studying far away from home. With the holidays coming up, where was she going to say? What to do?

Xiao Die, go to your room first. Tianer come with dad to the study. Feng Hang avoided looking at his wife as he walked to the study.

Madam Lan sighed. It looked like she would have to wait for another opportunity. Tianer, please persuade your father. Your sister is out there by herself with no place to stay. Shes never had to suffer through hardships before. Shes surely learned her lesson after everything thats happened. Im sure she will change her ways. Advise your father to let her return. Mothers heart is uneasy. Madam Lan began crying again as she spoke; the tears trailed down her still damp cheeks.

Tian nodded stiffly and followed his father into the study.

Feng Hang looked at his outstanding and handsome son and then he thought about his daughter. Once again he wondered if there was something wrong with his parenting, otherwise how could his daughter have grown up to be so strange and willful.

Because Xiao Wu was a girl, hed been more lenient and generous with her, but otherwise hed raised both his children the same way. He thought she would grow more gracefully into her position as eldest daughter in time, but she never did.

Father, you asked me to come here for a reason? Tian finally asked after enduring his fathers stare for several minutes.

Contact your sister and ask her if she needs anything. Twenty gold coins a month is meager. You can give her more depending on her situation. Youre her big brother so take care of her. Make sure you reach out to her personally. Dont let someone else do it for you. Understand?

The men in the Feng family werent good at expressing themselves so it was difficult for Feng Hang to express his concern for his children like this, to actually say the words.

Yes, I understand. Tian spoke to his fathers back. The older man had turned away from him before speaking earlier. Was his father shy? Knowing him, his ears were probably burning red.

Go on. Remember to do things properly. Feng Hang dismissed his son with a wave of his hand, adamantly not turning around.

Tian walked back to his room frowning as he thought about his sister. He was confused. They werent close. In fact, other than a few of his closest friends, most didnt even know they were related.
