Chapter 358: Letter
Chapter 358: Letter
The impact of the vines' attack created cracks that spread outward like a spider web.
Seeing the vines' destructive power, Wu Yehao realized Yao Ran's wood element ability was at least on par with his lightning element ability-if not stronger.
Before Long Yu and Yao Ran could launch another attack, Wu Yehao quickly said, "Miss Yao Ran, I am not your enemy."
As he spoke, Wu Yehao landed lightly on the ground.
The next second, Yao Ran said, "A Yu, wait."
At her words, Long Yu halted his attack. The edge of his military dagger, poised at Wu Yehao's neck, had already drawn a thin line of blood.
Noticing Wu Yehao's composure despite the military dagger at his throat, Yao Ran's eyes flickered briefly. She stepped forward and noticed the platinum white badge pinned to his collar.
After glancing at the badge, she said, "You are from the Yao Security Company."
Wu Yehao shook his head and corrected her. "There is no Yao Security Company anymore. We now call ourselves The Origin, established by Commander Fu to counter The Ark, created by Gao Shuwei twenty-seven days ago."
When they heard what he said, Yao Ran and Long Yu exchanged glances. Their eyes reflected the same calmness.
Despite her and Long Yu's rebirth altering many events, Yao Ran couldn't shake the feeling that The Ark's establishment was inevitable, no matter what they did.
After a long silence, Yao Ran said, "A Yu, let him go."
Long Yu withdrew his military dagger, leaped back, and then stood by her side.
Looking at Wu Yehao, Yao Ran then asked, "Why are you here?"
Wu Yehao replied, "I'm on a mission to invite you back to headquarters."
Yao Ran smiled faintly and asked, "Why should I go with you? We are strangers, and I don't trust any of you."
Her hidden hostility and sarcasm didn't faze Wu Yehao.
He thought for a second and then responded calmly, "Commander Fu and the senior officers established The Origin to counter Gao Shuwei's The Ark. However, our goal isn't to kill those forced to join The Ark under Gao Shuwei's threats."
"Instead, we need you to lead us in convincing those people to leave The Ark and help us fight against him. Moreover, our invitation is tied to a promise we made to Chairman Yao to protect and support you before his death."
After saying that, Wu Yehao took a letter from his backpack and handed it to Yao Ran.
"This is one of the letters Chairman Yao left for you. Commander Fu has kept the rest safe at headquarters."
Yao Ran took the letter, her eyes scanning the familiar handwriting and her grandfather's unique seal. At that moment, she knew that her grandfather had written this letter.
After reading it, she handed the letter to Long Yu and turned to Wu Yehao. She said, "This isn't the place to talk. Follow me."
Wu Yehao nodded. "Understood."
After saying that, Wu Yehao raised his right hand, and more than twenty men wearing identical black combat uniforms as him appeared behind him.
Seeing this, Yao Ran narrowed her eyes, realizing that if Wu Yehao intended to fight, it wouldn't be easy for her and Long Yu to leave unscathed.
She glanced at them and said, "Let's go."
"Yes, Miss Yao Ran," the men responded in unison.
Looking at them, Yao Ran suddenly felt like an underground boss. Holding her boyfriend's hand, she walked back to the villa area.
Behind them, Chen Zizhen's men came out from their hiding place.
They looked at the group of people walking in front of them, then at each other, and one of them said, with a hint of fear in his voice, "Let's go."
The others nodded and quickly followed Wu Yehao and others, keeping a safe distance between them.
After witnessing the battle between Yao Ran, Long Yu, and Wu Yehao, which lasted less than a minute, they knew that the three of them were very dangerous. To be on the safe side, these men chose to stay away from their disputes.
On the way back to the villa area, Long Yu returned the letter to her and whispered, "Ran Ran, is this letter real?"
Yao Ran nodded and asked, "Did you see the seal on the letter?"
"Yes," Long Yu replied.
Yao Ran's expression changed slightly as she explained, "That is my grandpa's seal. There is only one such seal in the world, and it's currently in my possession."
"The ink used in that letter is also special. It was made personally by my grandpa. No one but me can replicate it anymore."
She frowned slightly and added, "Judging from the ink color, this letter must have been written a few years ago. So yes, this letter is real, and my grandpa should have written it when he brought me back to the Yao family."
After listening to her explanation, Long Yu said, "Since your grandpa wrote the letter, could what Yao Yuechuan said earlier also be true?"
Yao Ran thought about what he said and shook her head. "I'm not sure. Although the letter is real, it could have been stolen. We can't trust them until we uncover the entire truth."
Noticing her furrowed brows, Long Yu reached out to smooth them out and said, "Don't worry. We will find out the truth sooner or later. If what they said is true, you will have more people to help you fight The Ark after this."
Yao Ran nodded. "You are right. I just hope this isn't a trap set by Gao Shuwei for us."
Long Yu gently patted her hand and comforted her. "With me here, no matter what he tries to do, I won't let him hurt you again."
Hearing this, Yao Ran smiled at him. "Mhm."
While the two of them whispered to each other, Wu Yehao signaled to his subordinates to keep a five-meter distance from Yao Ran and Long Yu to give them privacy.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Walking two steps behind him, one of his subordinates asked in a low voice, "Captain, should we investigate that man?"
