Chapter 187: Preparing a Basket for my Sweetest. Pseudo-Blood Dragon Pill Experiment; the Woes of Pill Refinement - Heat and Corrosion. Evolution of Junior Slime!
Mu Lin and Yun Feiyan finally arrived at the Boiling Rock Forest after some time. Mu Lin breathed in the fresh air with a gentle smile on her face as she remarked, "Hm~ this place feels so fresh. Sometimes I forget how great the scent of this part of the sect is, along with its cultivation benefits."
Yun Feiyan, holding a big basket in her hands, nodded calmly. "As long as we don't cross the Blue Steam Mountain, we should be fine. We don't want any trouble from the White Serpent Sect - they could simply accuse us of trespassing."
Mu Lin folded her arms and shook her head decisively. "I'll be the judge of what's right and what isn't," she declared with a dramatic sigh. "But let's not forget the nasty rumors about the White Serpent Sect and how terrible they really are."
Even Yun Feiyan was aware that the White Serpent Sect had one of the worst reputations in the Linwu Kingdom. What made it even worse was the fact that the unjust leniency from the Heavenly Court shielded them from 2nd Path cultivators who were itching to wipe out such an unlawful sect.
Stepping forward, Yun Feiyan added, "Hmm, we should still show respect to them the respect they deserve as a sect, no matter how shameful their practices may be."
Mu Lin simply shrugged. Giving respect to women who kidnapped men and raped them for their own gain seemed like a stretch to her. Placing her hands on her shapely waist, she uttered a sassy, "Hmph!" before proudly walking forward with eyes elegantly closed. "Why would I ever think to respect such lowly and filthy women who don't deserve it?" she stated boldly.
"In my opinion, they're just shameless perverts, using men like tools."
Yun Feiyan raised a skeptical eyebrow as she stared at Mu Lin's back. To her, there was something completely off about the statement Mu Lin had just made—not offensive, just plainly incorrect, leaving her at a loss for words.
"Hm?" The silence became deafening, prompting Mu Lin to turn back and inquire, "Feiyan? Is something wrong?"
Yun Feiyan struggled to compose herself before responding, "Umh, Young Miss... it's a bit hypocritical for you to say that when you've manipulated several male junior and senior disciples to the point you have them wrapped around your fingers and ready for disposal at any given time."
Mu Lin frowned at Yun Feiyan's accusation. She didn't feel offended by it—simply because Yun Feiyan had said nothing but the truth. "O-oh, please. It wasn't that bad. You're just exaggerating," she retorted.
Yun Feiyan gave her a weary, half-lidded stare, unimpressed by Mu Lin's denial. "Wasn't that bad, huh? Can you name even one male disciple who didn't help you refine powerful cultivation pills or beg to wash your clothes?" she countered sarcastically.
That question left Mu Lin speechless. She looked away, rubbing her chin in thought, struggling to recall even one name. In truth, she couldn't remember any of them. If she had to pick a name, it would probably be something like "cockroach" or "obedient dog". Humming thoughtfully, she glanced back at Yun Feiyan, who waited patiently for an answer.
Mu Lin's defeated expression made her look away, shamefully admitting, "W-well, y-, you might be right about that."
Yun Feiyan smiled triumphantly, satisfied with the acknowledgment. "Good, at least now you know you're just as guilty of exploiting men as the ladies from the White Serpent Sect," she remarked. However, in Mu Lin's case, it wasn't technically a crime; it was just that the men were too foolish and perverted, making them easy prey.
So, while the White Serpent Sect exploited men in brutal, physical ways, Mu Lin's methods were more emotional.
Rolling her eyes, Mu Lin redirected her attention to the forest. "Anyway, where's Yuying? We're supposed to meet here, and she's late," she said, scanning the area. "She should at least respect us simply by coming as early as we did."
"Young Miss, we're actually two hours late," Yun Feiyan corrected her.
Mu Lin cleared her throat, unwilling to admit she was wrong. "It still counts!" she insisted.
Yun Feiyan simply bowed her head in acquiescence. "Whatever you say, Young Miss."
After a brief pause, Mu Lin turned to Yun Feiyan and said, "Can I have that basket?" She pointed at the basket Yun Feiyan was holding.
Without hesitation, Yun Feiyan handed it over.
"Uh, Young Miss?" she addressed her respectfully.
Mu Lin, with a warm smile, rummaged through the contents of the basket. "Yes?" She didn't look up, still focused on sorting whatever was inside.
Yun Feiyan hesitated before asking, "When I visited your abode earlier, I saw you preparing this basket. Do you mind if I ask what's inside?" Her tone was gentle, as if she didn't want to pry too much.
Mu Lin didn't mind at all. "Oh, this is for my sweet, elegant, and dashing husband, Wei," she replied proudly.
Yun Feiyan raised an eyebrow. "Yang Wei, really?" She wasn't surprised that Mu Lin prepared something for him, but she wondered why she brought it here. "But isn't he in seclusion? You could've just dropped it at his doorstep or something."
Mu Lin shook her head confidently. "Of course not! Well, it makes sense nonetheless, ordinary women wouldn't know that my sweet Wei is out of seclusion," she bragged, her cheeks flushing with pride. "He's currently refining an important pill in Green Sanctuary Peak, and he sent me a letter requesting some food." She couldn't help but giggle. "And he asked in the cutest, most romantic way."
...
As time passed, a week slipped by before Yang Wei decided to send a letter to Mu Lin, "begging" for some rich spiritual food. He didn't bother reaching out to Huo Yue, assuming she might still be busy with whatever Huo Zirou took them to the Azure Lotus settlement for.
Besides, he figured Mu Lin would have an easier time getting into the Green Sanctuary Peak since she was more outgoing, and could threaten them in more ways than one.
During that week, Yang Wei tried refining numerous batches of his pseudo-Blood Dragon Strengthening Pill, but each attempt ended in failure.
While he had plenty of knowledge on refining even sixth-grade blood pills, he struggled to adapt it to the celestial dragon blood.
Increasing the ingredient measurements seemed like a solution, but he doubted even the Spirit-forging Cauldron could handle the intense corrosiveness of the extract.
Furthermore, he doubted his flames were hot enough to properly cook the pill, as they were still impure.
The corrosive nature of the extract continued to pose a problem, and new issues kept cropping up. Despite his efforts to overcome them, he couldn't see a way to solve the cauldron and heat intensity problems this time.
"Come on, this one better be good... I doubled the ingredients, reduced the extract and intensified the heat just a little more..."
Another pill shot out of the furnace at high speed, and Yang Wei caught it with lightning-fast reflexes. He inspected the pill, but it still didn't have the vermillion color he was aiming for—it was still burnt like coal.
"Another pill, another failure. Why can't I just get that vermillion colour I want!"
With a sigh, he tossed the pill aside, and his slime promptly devoured it to ensure none went to waste.
However, amidst his focus on pill refinement, Yang Wei failed to notice something crucial. He heard a monstrous yet squeaky growl and quickly turned around, only to find the golden slime he once knew transformed into something entirely different. It now resembled a small dragon, with golden scales, white horns on its head, stubby legs, and a long tail.
It even had a blue gem on its forehead and crystal blue eyes that mirrored Yang Wei's own. With its small wings and adorable face, it looked like the cutest baby dragon.
Yang Wei stared at the transformed slime in confusion as it barked at him and happily chewed on another discarded pill on the ground.
"Junior slime..."
A bright smile appeared on his face.
"You've evolved!"
It was now a Celestial Serpent!
