Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 615: Poisonous fire

When the first line of warriors reached again the fallen trolls, they began to attack their heads with the shields. Some trolls put a fight and blocked the attacks with their arms.

Others were still dizzy thanks to the impact and got even more dizzy when their heads were hit like that… it didn’t take many Strikes for them to stop moving and their skills to crack… some blood left their noses, but the miasma leaving those was minimal. Besides, they had piece of cloth covering their noses and mouths.

When they killed one enemy each, the warriors stepped back and went to the back of the formation giving room to the second line of warriors to do the same. They didn’t have much time to gain momentum to charge at the trolls, the trolls were actually the ones who charged instead, but they were able to stop their advance.

While the monsters tried to push them, the warriors on the third line jumped and then attacked the heads of the busy trolls with their shields. Once again, some ended up reacting and blocking the shields while others failed and fell.

"The plan is working, what next?" Reca asked.

"One problem at a time," Rain said.

Rain’s first goal was to get rid of the trolls, but he was only using his warriors for that. Him and his friends were only watching the battle while floating in the air on an ice platform. He figured out that his warriors will gain a massive boost of morale if they can win in the first battle without help.

Rain had decided to make the warriors use only their shields and attack the monsters heads because that would make them bleed less… usually, the trolls would need to have their brains and hearts destroyed to be killed, but they couldn’t heal when their own skulls were piercing their brains.

Things went as Rain had planned for a while, they Managed to kill around five hundred trolls before the enemies decided to send some reinforcements once they realized that the trolls would soon be exterminated and their blood wasn’t creating that much miasma.

Rain had planned to exterminate the trolls and then retreat and attack again in the afternoon, but the morale of his warriors was so high that he decided to improvise a bit… In the end, he was a bit surprised when the enemies sent two armies of salamanders to attack the warriors from the sides… they were going to create quite the fire.

"Jori and Asche can take the left side, Liss and Reca will take the right side," Rain declared. "Stay focused to receive further orders. I believe that these salamanders must have a few tricks up their sleeve."

"Understood," Rain’s friends said in unison.

Reca dashed toward the side with a large grim on her face… she truly had been looking forward to it. It seemed that becoming a mother of four only made her wild side grow stronger.

"What about us?" Terra asked.

"We will wait here and you should wait for those who will get sick," Rain said. "My plan was made to make sure that the trolls wouldn’t bleed that much, but I can’t say if we will be able to do the same with the salamanders."

Rain had given the order for the warriors to knock down and pull back to the backline those who seemed sick if they had to, but it was kind of hard to see if they would realize that in such a battlefield. Even those waiting for their turns looked like they were eating to crash some skulls.

Around Rain was thinking of that, he saw that his friends reached the salamanders and soon he saw that a bunch of warriors were following them with shields raised.

The salamanders opened their mouths and then fired massive blasts of purple fire… that was odd, their fire was supposed to be red.

"Again, huh?" Rain thought while squinting his eyes.

The warriors blocked the fire with their shields, since most of them were made using the scales of ice and sea dragons, they didn’t heat up at all and eventually reached the monsters… when that happened, they swung their shields and began to smash the monsters, but that also created opening in their formation to make some of them get burned.

The salamanders on the battlefield displayed a remarkable and unwavering determination. Even in the face of impending danger and the risk of their own deaths, they continued to unleash their deadly purple fire attacks. Their fire waves flew through the air, targeting the warriors with eerie accuracy.

Even when some of them were struck in the head by projectiles or faced other forms of harm, the salamanders pressed on with their relentless assault. They only ceased their barrage when their heads were utterly crushed, signifying their ultimate demise. This unyielding commitment to their onslaught made them formidable adversaries, willing to fight until the very end.

Liss and Asche tried to kill as many of them as possible, but even so, a lot of warriors were hit by the fire. Their defenses was increased thanks to their equipment, Limit Breaker and Magic Boost, so they only flinched for a moment and resumed their fight. Still, soon enough, they started to feel weird… their limbs started to tremble and they began to sweat.

"Terra," Rain said. "You are up now. Try to understand as much as possible those wounds. We might need that knowledge."

"You got it," Terra said and then dashed to the battlefield to help those who had been burned. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

The burn wounds inflicted on the warriors by the salamanders’ purple fire were not only painful but also peculiar. The injured areas displayed an eerie shade of purple, indicating that the flames had left behind a distinct and suspicious mark. What was even more concerning was the apparent contamination of the flesh, suggesting that the fire had some form of poisonous or corrosive properties.
