The Last Incubus with The Vice and Valor System

Chapter 120: Leafbound Wolves...

As the group of cultivators stepped through the massive portal, Leon felt a powerful force pull him in, as if the very fabric of space was warping around him.

For a brief moment, the world went dark, and the sensation of being weightless took over. It was as though he was floating in a void, disconnected from reality.

The familiar hum of Qi that usually surrounded him faded, replaced by an overwhelming pressure that made his heart race.

Then, just as quickly as it had come, the feeling dissipated.

Leon blinked as his vision returned, and he found himself standing on solid ground once again. The world that greeted him was unlike anything he had ever seen.

The air was thick with energy, humming with an unnatural vibrancy that made the hairs on his arms stand on end. The sky above was a soft, hazy green, and strange, twisting clouds seemed to float lazily across the expanse.

The landscape was lush and wild, filled with towering trees with deep emerald leaves that shimmered with an ethereal glow. Vines hung down like curtains from the branches, swaying gently in the breeze.

The ground was a mixture of soft moss and dense undergrowth, with strange, luminous flowers dotting the terrain. Everywhere Leon looked, the world seemed alive in a way that was almost unnerving. The plants themselves seemed to move, as though they were aware of the intruders in their domain.

This was no ordinary dungeon. It was as if they had stepped into another realm entirely—one that was bursting with the raw, untamed power of nature.

The other cultivators around Leon were similarly struck by the strange beauty of the place, but there was little time to marvel. Rynar, ever vigilant, quickly snapped them out of their daze.

"Stay alert!" he called out, his voice cutting through the air. "This is no time to lose focus. We're deep in enemy territory now."

As if on cue, the ground began to tremble beneath their feet. The strange, shimmering trees around them started to shift, their branches creaking ominously.

A deep, rumbling growl echoed through the forest, sending a wave of unease through the group, some of the weak willed ones were shaken, fallen to their knees at this loud rumble that sent a wave of cold shiver running down their spine.

Leon's eyes darted around, searching for the source of the noise. His instincts told him that something was very wrong, and he could feel the tension building in the air.

The others sensed it too, their weapons already drawn, their eyes scanning the dense forest around them.

Then, with a sudden roar, the Barkhide Treants emerged from the forest once again. Massive, gnarled forms of living wood, their bark as tough as iron, and their faces twisted into expressions of malice.

They crashed through the undergrowth, their massive limbs swinging like clubs as they advanced on the group of cultivators.

The Cultivators, with their experience with this beast right outside the dungeon before entering inside, we're not overwhelmed, they were now used to fighting the beast and can handle them with experience from their last battle

But unfortunately, to the shock of the cultivators this time, the Barkhide Treants weren't alone.

From the shadows of the trees, sleek, predatory figures slinked forward. Their fur was a deep green, blending seamlessly with the forest around them, and their eyes glowed with a fierce, predatory light. Their body was a mixture of wood and and leaf, despite having the inner body of wood, their agility while running was not to be underestimated as wooden joints did it's job very smoothly.

These were the Leafbound wolves, powerful dungeon beasts known for their speed and ferocity. Their bodies were lean and muscular, their claws piercing out of their wooden paws were as sharp as blades, and their movements were almost impossibly quick.

The wolves let out low, guttural beastial growls as they circled the group, their eyes locked on their prey. Their presence made the treants seem even more dangerous, as now the cultivators were caught between the crushing strength of the treants and the deadly speed of the wolves.

The fight began in an instant.

One of the wolves lunged at a cultivator, its jaws snapping shut with a ferocious snarl. The cultivator barely managed to block with his sword, but the force of the attack sent him stumbling back. Before he could recover, another wolf was on him, slashing at him with its claws.

Leon, meanwhile, found himself facing off against one of the treants. The creature's massive arm came crashing down towards him, but he was ready.

With a swift movement, he dodged to the side, his katana flashing as he slashed at the treant's arm. His blade bit into the wood, but it was like striking stone—the treant's bark was as hard as steel.

Undeterred, Leon focused his mana into his blade, increasing the power of his strike. He could feel the energy coursing through him, his muscles humming with the familiar surge of strength.

With a powerful swing, he slashed again, this time cutting deep into the treant's arm. The massive creature let out a groaning roar as it staggered back, its wooden body splintering.

Nearby, Rynar was battling a pair of Leafbound Wolves, his spear spinning in a deadly dance. The wolves were fast, darting in and out of his range, but Rynar's movements were precise.

He blocked one wolf's strike with the shaft of his spear and countered with a quick thrust, piercing the wolf's side.

The beast let out a pained yelp as it collapsed to the ground, but Rynar had no time to celebrate—another wolf was already charging at him from behind.

Rynar twisted just in time to avoid the wolf's claws, his spear flashing as he struck the beast down with a powerful blow. His eyes scanned the battlefield, assessing the situation.

The cultivators were holding their own, but the combined assault of the treants and the wolves was pushing them to their limits.

Leon continued to battle the treant in front of him, his katana cutting through the thick wood with each strike. The creature swung its massive arm at him again, but Leon was quicker.

He ducked under the attack and slashed at the treant's leg, bringing the massive creature crashing to the ground. With one final strike, he severed the treant's core, and the beast let out a final groan before collapsing into a heap of broken wood, it's body slowly dispersing to pixels, the pixels glowing floating dust.

Leon wanted to marvel at such a half-beautiful sight but there was no time to rest. Another treant was already advancing on him, its massive limbs swinging wildly. Leon tightened his grip on his katana, preparing for the next round of the fight.

The Leafbound Wolves, meanwhile, were proving to be even more dangerous than the treants. Their speed and agility made them difficult to hit, and their coordinated attacks kept the cultivators on the defensive.

One wolf leaped at a cultivator, its claws aiming for his throat, but the man managed to roll out of the way just in time, his sword flashing as he struck at the beast's side.

Another wolf darted in from behind, but a well-aimed Qi blast from one of the cultivators sent it flying back, its body slamming into a tree with a sickening thud. The wolves were relentless, but the cultivators fought back with equal ferocity.

As the battle raged on, Rynar's voice cut through the noise. "Focus your attacks! Take them down one at a time!"

His command rallied the group, and the cultivators began to work together, targeting the treants and wolves with coordinated strikes.

Slowly but surely, the tide of the battle began to turn in their favor. The treants, despite their strength, couldn't withstand the concentrated attacks, and one by one, they fell.

The wolves, too, began to fall, their ferocity no match for the combined might of the cultivators. With each beast that fell, the group pushed forward, their determination unshaken.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the last of the treants and wolves were defeated. The forest grew quiet once more, the only sounds the heavy breathing of the exhausted cultivators and the rustling of the leaves in the breeze.

Rynar wiped the sweat from his brow as he surveyed the scene. "That was only the beginning," he said, his voice low and serious. "This is just the start, the size of this dungeon is extremely great, it'll take quite a long while. We should expect more attacks and beast waves as time passes by, we can't afford to let our guard down."
