The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

Chapter 272 - Result

The warehouse was one hundred meters long and ten tall. While the walls were made of stone, the ceiling wasn't, so that would burn pretty nicely. Regardless, after they moved around the building to have a clear view of all the guards, Zaos made a Fire Sword appear above his head. Then at that same instant, the eight guards around the warehouse fell dead with arrows on their heads.

They regrouped on the place Zaos was, and they saw him concentrating. In the blink of an eye, five massive Fire Swords appeared in front of him, and they were fired toward the warehouse. The ceiling of the plane exploded, and the flames fell to the interior of the building. The noise will wake up many people, but despite that, Zaos calmly gave his orders.

"Lead the way to the exit. I will watch our back," Zaos said.

They moved back to the exit while using the darkness between houses. Thanks to that, not even the mercenaries that were using those residences noticed their movements, even though they left those places and passed ten meters away from the group. When the group almost was back to the wall, Zaos stopped and then fired other five massive Fire Swords to the stables in the distance. Horses weren't bad creatures, and despite Moody's behavior, he quite liked them, but it couldn't be helped. Some of them will have to die in order to make their soldiers have a nicer time once the battle starts. Unfortunately, Zaos didn't aim properly, so two of the five swords didn't hit the stables.

"They are in the southern walls!"

It seemed someone noticed Zaos's attacks, but that wasn't really a problem. The group had plenty of time. When they climbed down the walls, and some enemy archers tried to attack them, Zaos hit them with his crossbow. He kept firing to scare others, and the group reached their horses' unscathed thanks to that. However, the gate of that side of the city was opened, and dozens of horsemen began to move toward them.

"Don't worry, I got you back," Zaos said. "Just focus on get on the horses."

Zaos stopped and then pointed his crossbow toward the enemies. After using Light in the Darkness, his vision suddenly improved despite the darkness of the night, and then he fired the bolts toward the enemy mercilessly. With each shot, a rider fell off the horse, dead or gravely wounded, but Zaos didn't feel that satisfied with that. After all, he'd better be hitting them. Otherwise, he would be literally shooting gold coins toward the enemies.

When his soldiers were already above their horses, they stepped forward to give Zaos the chance to mount. The enemies kept coming because they knew so few invaders wouldn't have that many arrows with them, and they better capture or kill them. Otherwise, they won't live to sunrise.

Zaos' archers killed several enemies, but in the end, there was no end to them. They began to ride in the opposite direction as fast as they could. Fortunately, they were caught off guard, and the pursuers didn't have bows or crossbows with them. They crossed several kilometers without having to worry about the fight. Still, Zaos' archers finally ran out of arrows in the end, and while they were good archers, they were decent warriors with swords and spears at best.

"Don't worry guys, I got you," Zaos said. "Just keep moving forward."

Zaos sure sounded calm despite the fact that dozens of enemies were pursuing his group and the fact that he had little to no experience fighting while riding a horse. He couldn't use his favorite stances, so he had to make up for it with raw speed and by relying on his reflexes.

When the first riders approached, they laughed when Zaos drew his sword. As if someone could properly wield a weapon like that in a horse… However, they changed their minds when two riders tried to attack him by the side, and Zaos swung his sword so fast and cut both of them in two pieces leaving the horses without their riders.

The pursuers felt goosebumps when they smelled blood and saw the riders falling on the ground. For a second, they hesitated, but they knew that they couldn't return empty-handed or they would die anyway. The riders armed with spears tried to use the range of their weapons to attack Zaos. Once again, two tried to attack Zaos from both sides at the same time. However, Zaos blocked one spear with his sword and grabbed the other after using earth magic to enhance his left arm. After doing that, he threw the spear back at the enemy, and that pierced his heart. The other guy tried to run away, but Zaos put a black bolt on his back.

After trying that much, the enemies understood that they wouldn't wound Zaos without long-ranged weapons, so they tried to chase the group from a safer distance, but Zaos didn't let them do that either. He cast an enhanced Fire Sword and fired at the enemy. When the projectile hit its target, it exploded and engulfed everyone ten meters around the enemy in flames. While those who escaped were surprised, Zaos decided to fire another. Still, then they react in time and spread around in all directions to avoid the attack.

"I guess this will do it…" Zaos said.

After a couple of minutes, Zaos finally reached his allies, and he could tell that the enemies stayed behind. In the end, maybe he was expecting too many of relaxed soldiers that just woke up in the middle of the night. Or perhaps things went so well because he burned some of the stables that were closest to the walls they used.

"I guess the mission was a success, gentlemen," Zaos said. "Congratulations!"

Although it wasn't time for celebrations since they had a long road ahead of them, Zaos's soldiers almost burst into laughter. Those were the most insane things they did in their whole lives, and they left without even getting stretched, after all.
