Chapter 215 - [Bonus ]Weird Presence
The enemies were caught off guard when a soldier suddenly jumped from the mountain and appeared right behind them. They heard of magic that let humans make such jumps like that and then survive without breaking their bones, but they never saw it before.
Few soldiers were still at the bottom of the mountain, but they were a considerable number nonetheless. Not to mention, the commander was overseeing the entire battle from there, and Zaos recognized him and the mages. They were probably the ones who healed him. The big commander tried to draw his long spear when Zaos dashed toward, and the mages also tried to cast their spells, but in the end, Zaos cut them in half before they could do anything.
That should cause some problems to the chain of command, but Zaos wasn't thinking about that at the moment. He just wanted to kill as many enemies as possible. The soldiers at the bottom of the mountain tried to charge toward him using the famous tortoise formation. Still, again, Zaos swung his sword and made many soldiers lose their weapons. Once he made a hole in that formation, killing everyone inside had been relatively easy for Zaos.
Before Zaos could actually finish off the soldiers at the bottom of the mountain, the soldiers who were climbing began to retreat and run toward him. In the end, even without their commander, they could at least do that much. Before Zaos could be surrounded, some Wind Swords fell on the enemies and cut several of them in pieces. That was probably Ameria covering Zaos, but he didn't pay attention to that. He only swung his sword and cut in half the members inside the formation and then made blood rain over him.
Upon noticing that ordinary formations wouldn't help him in killing Zaos, the soldiers who just climbed down the mountain tried to surround him once again and then decreased the size of the circle while moving toward him with their spears ready to pierce his flesh. But in the end, Zaos escaped their encirclement by jumping by enhancing his legs once more and then landing behind the circle. Once he did that, he easily cut down the enemies and their exposed backs.
"Was it my fault?" Zaos thought.
The very moment Zaos stopped swinging his sword and then looked for the next enemies, that thought began to nag at him again. He couldn't let that happen. If he does, Zaos wouldn't be able to cope with that feeling… It was just too much for him.
The flow of the battle changed when Zaos jumped from the mountain. The enemies decided to totally focus on him, so his allies were completely safe while they were going down the mountain. However, the path wasn't exactly free. Drannor and Erean were having a hard time opening the path, not to mention, the enemies became wilder when they saw Ameria approaching as well.
"Princess… Do you really want to see me being beheaded that much?" Erean asked after a long sigh.
"Let's stop wasting time and defeat them while they are confused," Ameria said while she was casting another Wind Sword and fired toward a group of soldiers that were about to attack Zaos from behind. "This is a golden opportunity, it is dangerous, but it is the best chance that we will have."
Although the few people that still had crossbows that could be used were trying to offer Zaos some support, the number of wounds in his body was increasing. It was probably because he had been cutting down enemies wearing full armor, and that cost him more stamina than usual, so he was getting slower.
"That idiot…" Drannor said that when he saw a spearman wounding Zaos's right leg, he tried to jump over it but failed due to exhaustion. "Ameria, stay behind Erean."
After saying that, Drannor jumped from the mountain as well, but instead of making a high leap like Zaos, he began to run through the rough parts of the mountain. It was pretty dangerous since if he makes a mistake, he will fall, roll, and only stop at the bottom of the mountain. Despite that, Drannor managed to gain a boost in speed due to the inclination and still avoided losing his foot.
In the blink of an eye, Drannor reached the place where he and Zaos stabbed in the neck three enemies that were about to attack Zaos in the back. Zaos turned around, and Drannor recognized that the exhaustion made some reason return to his eyes, but he still looked deeply troubled.
"You really are crazy…" Drannor said and then approached to cover Zaos back. "You won't lead any army at this rate. Fight the enemies on that side, that I will take the ones on this site."
Zaos was having a hard time breathing, so he certainly didn't have enough room to argue. Regardless, despite his exhaustion, fighting became much easier now that Zaos didn't have to worry about his back. Some enemies tried to attack him at the same time, but again, with swift swing, he repelled their weapons with another powerful one. He broke their shields and arms before making the enemies roll on the ground.
Zaos reached a point that he wasn't thinking of asking for a break, even after defeating three enemies with just two strikes. The main reason was that the others always came soon afterward before his muscles could relax even a little bit.
In the corner of his vision, Zaos saw Ameria's group approaching. It seemed that the whole fighting had come to an end… a bit sooner than he had imagined since he didn't think that he defeated more than one hundred enemies. Regardless, the whole flow of the battle changed when whistling echoed through the battlefield. The soldiers suddenly stopped dashing toward Zaos, and then they turned to face Ameria… all of them. The enemies didn't seem like the zombies he saw in the North, but they certainly weren't normal people. Drannor dashed to help Ameria since the number of enemies still was too high. However, Zaos stayed behind when he felt a weird presence approaching.
