Chapter 197
197 The change in mission location
“You still don’t know where this mission is happening?”
“I asked but everyone in my circle doesn’t know..... I even threatened the Marshal but he refused to say anything...”
“Do that, at least I will feel reassured.....”
“No he is here..... he is ready to go.”
“Nah he is fine. He seems excited.....”
“Okay, don’t get noticed..... bye.”
That was a call conversation between Zi Feiji and his daughter. For days they had been trying to figure out where this training exercise slash exam was happening but the military was being tight lipped about it.
Zi Xingxi could only track her son’s location to find out where he was going. At least both of them would have a sense of ease. As mentioned before Zi Xingxi had offended so many people and they were honestly worried that someone will try something while he was out of reach.
Zi Han on the other hand was so excited about this training exercise that he was even counting down the days.
.....
Thus three hours before the warship departed Zi Han was already dragging his grandfather to the hovercar. Zi Feiji couldn’t understand what was so exciting about this.
When he went for his training exercise it was an entire week of surviving in the hot desert while killing vicious blood sucking insects emerging from the ground.
As for Zi Xingxi, it was two weeks of suppressing Interstellar pirates on the furthermost planet in the solar system.
When Zi Xingxi went for this training exercise, Zi Feiji was extremely worried but at least he knew where she was going. Now his grandson was going through the same process they did but he didn’t know where they were going. Thus he was stressed for the past few days.
“Why are you so excited? There won’t be a comfortable bed or tasty food.... plus you can’t take your light brain with you. With all that on the table you are still smiling like a fool?” he said ruffling Zi Han’s hair.
Zi Han smiled joyfully before comforting his grandfather. “I am excited about the field training or exam if you can call it that. I am aiming for the best results,” replied Zi Han fixing his hair.
“You know you don’t have to go, right? You can just stay with your grandfather and I can raise you. I worked hard in my youth so you can enjoy your life without stress,” said Zi Feiji trying to sweet talk him into giving up this mission.
Zi Han couldn’t understand his grandfather’s worries but he really wanted to do this. In truth, he was born for this. He was born to dominate the battlefield and come out on top. The thought of it made his blood rush.
“I will be fine. I will be back before you know it,” he said before kissing his grandfather’s cheek.
“Sir, we have arrived,” said Old Lu who was also worried like a mama hen. The young sir hadn’t been home for long now he was heading into the unknown in a place none of them knew.
“Grandpa, I got to go. When I get back we can go wherever you want?” said Zi Han before patting Old Lu’s shoulder and walking out of the hovercar.
As he watched Zi Han’s figure disappear Zi Feiji felt slight grievance. He hung his head low and said, “He didn’t even let me say goodbye to him.”
Old Lu looked back at him through the rearview mirror hesitating to say something. After fighting with himself for a while he finally said, “But sir for the past three days you have been sticking to him like white on rice.”
Zi Feiji who had been exposed stared at him with a dumbfounded expression. Why did he have to put his business out there?
“I did not,” said Zi Feiji denying it like a pro.
“Sir, you dragged him for a sleepover and made him watch your favourite shows until he passed out. He also made you a fluffy cake for two da-,” said Old Lu spilling all the tea before Zi Feiji interrupted him.
“Ba ba ba, say no more. Geez, you are really chatty today,” he said and the old steward suppressed the smile threatening to creep up his face.
Zi Feiji glanced out the window unwilling to leave. He watched as the trainees entered through the gates one by one. He was about to ask the old steward if he thought Zi Han will cope when his light brain rang.
It was a video request from Marshal Yi but because Zi Feiji was still pissed off he didn’t answer. “Let’s go,” he said and the hovercar drove away.
After three consecutive calls, Marshal Yi lost his patience. He figure that Zi Feiji was upset but he didn’t disclose the information because he couldn’t. For some reason, prime minister Ikeda Yua was making unreasonable demands. After hours of arguing he demanded that the location for the training exercise be changed.
His reasoning was that this training exercise should contribute to solving the recent attacks by these creatures.
Since they knew of a desolate planet facilitating these intricate portals he suggested that they send the students to find all these devices and destroy them.
Marshal Yi would have easily accepted this request but the problem was that for one to get to this planet they had to go through a wormhole which was extremely difficult to navigate.
The planet was also prone to megacomets and the extreme weather that is there all year round made it hard to navigate. It made sense why the Republic would choose such a place to set up these devices which grant them access to the rest of the Federation.
What made it even more unsettling was that this technology was an older version of what the royal family designed to get around the galaxy in a matter of seconds.
The only reason it never amounted to anything was that there was insufficient evidence that it won’t affect one’s genetic make up. Plus there was also a probability that one might get lost and never be found.
