Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 553 Heavenly Burial Scripture

"No, I must speak with the Heavenly Emperor about this matter. Let's go." Tian Buluo grabbed Lin Shen and was determined to find Emperor Tianshu.

Lin Shen originally wanted to say that Tian Buluo could go see Emperor Tianshu by himself. After all, matters of imperial families were not something he could get involved in.

But upon further reflection, Lin Shen swallowed his words and followed Tian Buluo anyway.

However, when Lin Shen reached the outer area of the Imperial Palace, only Tian Buluo was summoned inside. Without a summon from the Heavenly Emperor, he could only wait outside.

Lin Shen didn't know whether what he was doing was right or wrong, but An 6 had repeatedly cautioned him never to think of deceiving Emperor Tianshu. After much thought, he felt it was better to confess. Even if he had to accept punishment, it was better than the consequences if Emperor Tianshu discovered the truth later—that wouldn't be something that could simply be resolved with a punishment.

"Will Emperor Tianshu punish me? How will he punish me? I have no money to offer, and I certainly can't give up my life. Will the woman's corpse be dragged out and lashed? I wonder if there will still be an opportunity to 'sleep' the Fire Seed back to life." Lin Shen waited and waited, and it was nearing midnight, yet Tian Buluo still hadn't come out.

Lin Shen had a bad feeling in his heart; if even a prince like Tian Buluo was to be punished, his own punishment would only be more severe.

Just as he was consumed with anxiety, the great doors of the Imperial Palace creaked open, and Tian Congyun walked out.

"Dean, come with me. The Emperor is waiting for you," said Tian Congyun expressionlessly.

"Steward Yun, where is Prince Tian Buluo?" Lin Shen extended his hand to give something to Tian Congyun, but Tian Congyun pressed down on his hand, not even allowing him to take out the item.

"Dean, we only need to serve the Emperor to the best of our abilities," Tian Congyun said. "Don't worry about the rest. Come now, the Emperor is still waiting for you." Tian Congyun led the way ahead.

Seeing Tian Congyun's demeanor, Lin Shen knew this matter was probably not going to be easy to handle. He followed Tian Congyun and arrived outside Emperor Tianshu's study room.

"Your Majesty, the Dean is here," said Tian Congyun softly at the door.

"Reply from outside the door, and you may leave," the voice of the Heavenly Emperor came from within the room, authoritative and commanding.

Tian Congyun responded and withdrew from the chambers, leaving Lin Shen alone outside the study room door.

"Tian, do you admit your guilt?" the cold voice of the Heavenly Emperor called out from inside the study room.

"I admit my guilt," Lin Shen replied, thinking to himself, "This Emperor Tianshu really enjoys playing these games, first asking whether one admits their guilt as if putting on a play. Surely the next line won't be 'say what your crime is.'"

"Say then, what is your crime?" The Heavenly Emperor's following words gave Lin Shen an eerily strange feeling.

"I should not have intruded into Luoja Snow Mountain on my own accord, let alone taking Prince Tian Buluo with me," Lin Shen remembered An 6's warnings; it's a blessing to suffer a loss, one must shoulder the blame even when it's heavy.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Hmph, knowing it's wrong, you still deliberately committed the act. After doing one thing, you become arrogant and conceited. Did you really think the rules of the Celestial Race would not apply to you?"

Lin Shen heard the sound of something being heavily smashed inside the study room, as if something had broken.

Standing outside the door, Lin Shen said, "Everything is my fault. It has nothing to do with Prince Tian Buluo. Please, Your Majesty, decree my punishment."

"You do seem to have some sense of responsibility, knowing to admit your mistakes," Emperor Tianshu's tone had softened considerably but still carried a chill as he said, "This is a grave mistake, and if we do not punish you, who knows what greater calamities you might cause in the future."

"Very well, since you're the one who caused this calamity, the responsibility of burying the gods and the Heavenly Emperor falls on your shoulders. If you handle this matter well, we'll let bygones be bygones. But if you fail, you won't be spared upon your return." No sooner had Emperor Tianshu's voice faded than someone pushed the door open and walked out of the study.

Seeing that it was Tian Buluo who came out, Lin Shen secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He had thought that Tian Buluo had already been dealt with by Emperor Tianshu. It seemed there was nothing wrong.

After Tian Buluo came out, he closed the door from the outside, turned his back to it, and gave Lin Shen a silent smile. He then handed him a book before he finally spoke, "This is the method for the burial of the Heavenly Emperor. You must bury the gods and the Heavenly Emperor in the mausoleum according to this method, without any omissions."

"Yes," Lin Shen said as he took the book, which bore the title "Heavenly Burial Scripture" on the cover.

"Before this matter is properly resolved, you aren't permitted to go anywhere. Tian Buluo, you are to be confined to Rainy Mist Tower for three months. Order Qing Yu to guard you, and if you dare to leave Rainy Mist Tower for even half a day during this time, your legs will be broken. Guards, take Prince Tian Buluo to Rainy Mist Tower," the Heavenly Emperor's voice came once more from within the study.

Someone came forward to escort Tian Buluo away, and soon only Lin Shen was left in front of the study. Emperor Tianshu hadn't told him to leave, so he couldn't leave.

"Your name on the maternal star is Lin Shen?" The Heavenly Emperor's voice had softened considerably.

"Yes," replied Lin Shen.

"Since you have come to our Celestial Race, you should no longer use your previous name. 'Tian' is a good name, fitting for our Celestial Race, and for me as well," the Heavenly Emperor paused before continuing, "Do you know about the matter of the gods and the Heavenly Emperor?"

"Your Majesty, what you require me to know, I know. What you don't require me to know, I am ignorant of," Lin Shen answered.

"As long as you understand what should be done and what shouldn't, you're doing well. The mistakes you make must be punished, but the grievances you suffer can't be in vain. Act in accordance with fate and handle the matters well, and those favored by heaven shall receive divine assistance." Emperor Tianshu seemed a bit weary, "Go now, study the Heavenly Burial Scripture carefully, and be sure to conduct yourself appropriately."

"Yes." Holding the Heavenly Burial Scripture, Lin Shen left the study and only saw Tian Congyun outside the sleeping palace, who then escorted him out of the Imperial Palace.

Returning to Silent Residence, Lin Shen opened the "Heavenly Burial Scripture" to find a handwritten sentence on the introductory page: "Heaven creates all things to nourish people, and upon death, people are buried to repay heaven."

Flipping through the content, all he found were the rules and rituals of burying the Heavenly Emperor. But if he were to follow these ceremonial details, not only would he be unable, alone, to complete the burial in a short time, even if he had a thousand men with him, it would be impossible.

However, Emperor Tianshu had only given him the Heavenly Burial Scripture; he provided neither money nor helpers. It was simply impossible to bury the gods and the Heavenly Emperor to such a standard.

Moreover, that woman was clearly not of the Celestial Race, and likely not the gods and the Heavenly Emperor either. The Celestial Race had always refrained from burying her in the mausoleum of Luoja Snow Mountain, which certainly had something to do with this.

Lin Shen looked again at the handwritten preamble and suddenly everything became clear to him.

Emperor Tianshu wasn't making him bury the gods and the Heavenly Emperor at all; he was essentially instructing him to dispose of that woman's body, preferably in a manner that would leave no trace.

Lin Shen was puzzled. Why had no one from the Celestial Race done this over the years, and why hadn't Emperor Tianshu done it himself, instead pushing it onto him?

Lin Shen knew there must be a reason, which he simply could not fathom.

Nevertheless, this was an advantage to him. If he was going to deal with the body by himself, then the Fire Seed would likely not escape.

But before he set out, he needed to make some preparations; otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to enter Luoja Snow Mountain, let alone come down alive.
