Chapter 66: A Short Match
[3rd POV] [The Next Day]
It was the day after Gwen and Tenzin had talked. And the two had scheduled a time in which Gwen could show her skills off to the man. That time was the next day, aka today.
The girls during this time, were already planning on exploring more of the city, with Raven wanting to research more into bending, and whether or not it would be possible for them to gain it. Something Gwen was also interested in. She expected it to be possible, thanks to the Lion Turtles, but she didn't know if she had the ability to do it just yet.
Currently, Gwen was on a boat, heading towards the island in which Korra, Tenzin, and Tenzin's family lives.
The island itself was...small, and was relatively close to Avatar Aang's statue, which was on a nearby island.
'Huh...a bit underwhelming, to be honest' Gwen thought, gazing at the island that she was slowly heading to. She could feel the power of one of the individuals who were no doubt waiting for her, and she had to admit, it was quite impressive.
'So that must be Korra...' Gwen thought, as she sensed the girls power, as she saw her in the distance, getting a much more clear look at the attractive teen.
'Wow...that pro-pending uniform covered a lot more than I thought' Gwen thought, as she took in the sight of Korra from afar. The girl had a noticeable amount of muscle on her arms and abs, and was quite toned, more so than any of her girlfriends. Not to mention her sizeable...assets.
'Having a crush on her back in my last life makes this a whole lot worse' Gwen thought with a sweatdrop. She had crushes on a selection of fictional girls, and Korra was one of them. Probably because she had a bit of a thing for her, mainly because of her tomboyish attitude, plus, muscle girls are hot (usually).
As the boat stopped, Gwen sighed as she slowly stepped down the ramp, onto the solid dock below.
"Ah, good! You're finally here!" Tenzin said as he walked forward, causing Gwen to smile.
"The boat ride took a bit longer than I was expecting" Gwen responded, as she shook the mans hand again, while noticing the way Korra was giving her looks on the side. Small narrowed eyes were pointed at her direction.
"You're the one who Tenzin wants me to fight, really? You look the same age as me!" Korra said, causing Gwen to raise an eyebrow. She remembered that the girl was...a bit arrogant in the beginning of the first season, but she got a lot better after sometime. Not to mention her being raised to be like that, with the white lotus (pretty much the ones who trained her) constantly praising her.
"Looks can be deceiving, Korra" Gwen responded with a small smirk, before Tenzin coughed.
"No fighting with the guest, Korra. Gwen this, is my family" Tenzin said, as he motioned to his family that stood there.
"This is my wife, Pema" Tenzin said, motioning to a younger looking woman. Younger as in...16 years younger.
'Definitely a little weird...but I'm not gonna comment on that one' Gwen thought, as she smiled and shook the hands of the very pregnant, but nice lady.
"It's nice to meet you, Gwen" Pema said with a smile, while Tenzin moved onto his children. "This is my eldest daughter, Jinora"
"It's nice to meet you, Miss Gwen" Jinora said with a smile and wave.
"Just Gwen, Jinora. I'm the same age as Korra, afterall" Gwen responded with a chuckle, while Tenzin moved on to his other daughter.
"This is my youngest daughter, Ikki"
"Hi! Is it true you're a master firebender? But aren't they usually super old and are all wrinkl- " "Ikki" Tenzin cut the girl off, causing her to pout.
"I'd like to think of myself as one, and not all masters are saggy and wrinkly like your pops" Gwen responded with a shrug, causing Tenzin to glare at her, while Ikki, Pema, and Tenzin's youngest child all giggled.
"I may have made a mistake" Tenzin muttered, as he began to realize the sort of personality Gwen has.
"Nah, I don't like bullying the elderly" Gwen responde with a wave of her hand, causing his sag to deepen. Even Korra cracked a small smile at this one.
"And this, is my youngest child, and only son, Meelo"
"Is it true firebenders fart fire?!" Meelo asked with shining eyes, causing Gwen to blink.
"Sadly no. It'd be cool if we could though" Gwen responded, causing the boy to pout.
"Awww, I wanted to see fire farts" Meelo huffed, while Tenzin just groaned.
"Alright, that is enough of that. Let's get to the arena where you two will fight" Tenzin said, deciding to cut this conversation off before his son said anything more embarrassing.
Hearing this Gwen just chuckled and began to follow.
"How long have you been in Republic City for?" Jinora asked, being the most...normal of Tenzin's children. Well...mostly.
"A few days. It's been...interesting so far. Especially with the anti-bender propaganda everywhere" Gwen responded, causing Tenzin to frown.
"Anti-Bender?" Korra asked, remembering seeing the posters and a rally at a park.
"Yeah, the equalists or whatever. Not a very good cause"
"Why not? They haven't done anything bad yet" Korra responded with a small frown.
"Because I can already see where it's going to go. First it'll be a normal protest with normal people, but soon it'll turn into a terrorist organization that wants to wipe out bending kind" Gwen responded, while Tenzin glared at her.
"That's a huge leap though. What's the chances of them doing that?" Korra asked, ignoring Tenzin's piercing glare.
"A leap to us, a logical step to the right party" Gwen responded with a shrug, ending that conversation, mainly for the kids.
"Oh yeah! I brought gifts for you" Gwen said, remembering something she had whipped up the previous night.
Pulling a small box from her subspace, she pulled it out of her pocket. "Huh? Where'd that come fr-" "COOKIES!!" Meelo and Ikki both screamed as the scent of fresh cookies entered
their noses.
"They smell amazing" Jinora said as she looked at the cookies.
"I made one for each of you. I'd have made more, but I wasn't sure what types you guys make. "They're all vegatarian, of course" Gwen said with a smile, as she looked at Pema and then
Tenzin.
"Go ahead, kids" Pema said with a smile, as Meelo and Ikki both snatched a cookie each, but not before saying thank you.
Biting into their cookies, the kids eyes went wide. "This is the best thing I've ever put in my mouth!" Meelo screeched as he munched on the large cookie.
"Wow these are amazing..." Jinora whispered with a smile as she bit into her cookie again. While Ikki was just...muttering crazily? Gwen decided to ignore that one. "They can't be that good..." Korra said, as she tried to ignore the scent of the cookies. Even Tenzin had to look away from the cookies, as they smelled amazing, and were vegetarian from what Gwen had said. Something he trusted the girl on, as she wasn't the type to lie.
"Would you like one, Pema?"
"I'd love one" Pema responded with a smile, as she grabbed a cookie, and slowly bit into it.
Only to let out a small gasp.
"These are...delicious!" Pema whisper yelled.
"Tenzin, you must try one!" Pema said to her husband, causing him to glance before grbabing
one and biting into it, muttering a thank you.
The second he did, his eyes went blank "I shouldn't have hesitated" He said, as he took
another bite with a...smile, which looked a little creepy on him.
"You want one, Korra?" Gwen asked, waving the box in front of her.
"Okay fine!" Korra said with a huff "Can't be that good anywa-" Korra was cut off as she bit
into it, only for her face to go bright red.
'And there's the food wars logic' Gwen thought with a sweatdrop, realizing the girl was trying
to hold in her moan.
"Amashing" Korra muttered, blushing slightly at the fact that she almost moaned at the
taste.
"I'm glad you all like them" Gwen said with a smile, as she watched the family finish the rest
of the cookies.
"I must ask, can you give me the recipe for those cookies? They were amazing!" Pema asked, causing Gwen to chuckle.
"If today goes well, I'll teach you how to make them myself" Gwen responded, causing Pema
to smile, while the entire family looked at Tenzin with narrowed eyes basically saying "Don't
mess this up".
Coughing, Tenzin spoke "Ah! It looks like we are here. Must have happened while we were
eating"
Hearing this Gwen chuckled, but walked onto the stone platform, Korra going across from
her.
"Alright, the rules of this sparare simple! Fire bending only, winner through forfeit, knock out of the ring, or knock out!"
"No, Korra can use all her bending" Gwen instantly said, causing Tenzin to blink.
"You want me to prove my skills, right? Then let me show you just how skilled I am, Tenzin"
Gwen continue, causing Tenzin to look at her, before nodding.
"Korra shall be allowed to use all elements. And...start!"
As those words exited Tenzin's mouth, Korra placed a single footed stomp into the ground, before launching a large rock towards Gwen, in which she simply dodged through a simple side step.
A small smile formed on Gwen's face as she began to effortlessly dodge the girls attacks, not allowing a single one of them to get anywhere close to hitting her.
"Your moves are too simple. Too easy to read. Be more unpredictable!" Gwen said, as she
dodged a stream of fire that flew to where she was just standing.
"You want unpredictable? I'll give you unpredictable!" Korra yelled out, as a football sized piece of rock flew towards Gwen, followed by a blast of fire, and a thin streak of water. Seeing this, Gwen chuckled and dodged and weaved "Not unpredictable enough, Korra. And yes, that includes your attempt to freeze the water below me" Gwen said, as she flipped back as Korra attempted to catch her foot with frozen water.
"Your bending is too predictable and robotic. Bending is free, as free as the elements. Don't let those stupid bending rules restrict you, Korra. Be as free and chaotic as the Ocean, as Passionate and powerful as fire, and as tough and destructive as Earth" Gwen said, grinning as
Korra growled.
'Time to end this' Gwen decided, knowing it would take a lot more than a single fight, to make Korra better. So instead, she would prove the distance between the two of them. Dashing forward at somewhat normal human speeds, Gwen jumped before raising her foot,
and kicked downwards, as a powerful and bright streak of...blue flames, slammed into Korra, who attempted to block it.
Tenzin's eyes widened at the sight of the blue fire, while Gwen landed on her feet, used a mix
of kicks and punches, sending fire blast after fire blast against the struggling Korra, who was trying her best to block the attacks.
'She's a master...and not a normal one' Tenzin noted, the blue fire recognizable from the stories he had been told of...Azula, sister of Zuko.
The family all watched as Gwen shot up, and did a dropkick-esque motion in the air, causing a
large stream of blue flames to launch of her feet, slamming into Korra, and knocking her far
back out of the ring.
Getting to her feet, Gwen dusted off her clothes as Korra groaned on the ground.
"So I won, right?" Gwen asked, turning to a wide eyed group.
"... Yes. As we discussed yesterday, you needed to prove yourself, and you most certainly
have" Tenzin said, nodding.
"As of this moment, you will be Korra's teacher in Firebending and Footwork" Tenzin said,
causing Korra, who was getting to her feet, to go wide eyed.
"WHAT?!" Looking between the wide eyed, and angry Korra, and the seemingly happy Tenzin, Gwen just
sweatdropped and thought.
'Huh...thought he told her'Nôv(el)B\\jnn

That's the end of the chapter!
Not sure how well this was written, as writing bending is...difficult. I plan on doing research
into the names of different martial arts moves, especially the ones that are used in the show.
Finding a good pic of Korra was difficult, but I hope the ones I selected were half decent. As she will more than likely be Gwen's love interest for this world. Next chapter will probably be a short timeskip or something of the sort.
Anyways, have a good day!
