Chapter 133: The Sealed Legacy
The chamber seemed to grow colder, and each step forward made my skin prickle. The door was bound by thick, heavy chains, and every link glowed faintly, casting a dim light across the cavern. The engravings on the altar pulsed in sync with the chained door, and a steady, deep vibration filled the air, almost like the beat of a sleeping giant's heart.
"Chat, this place… it's something else," I whispered, the eerie stillness sinking in. "It feels like we're standing at the edge of something huge, something that's been buried for a long time."
The chat was buzzing with anxious excitement.
: Don't go any closer! I can't shake the feeling that this is a trap.
: What if that door holds something worse than anything you've faced?
: This isn't just a dungeon anymore. It's a tomb.
Kijin and Raijuu flanked me, their eyes never leaving the door. Kijin's growl was low, almost a rumble, as if warning something in the darkness that he was ready. Raijuu's fur bristled, faint arcs of lightning dancing along his body as he prepared for whatever might come next.
Just as I stepped closer to the door, a sudden wave of energy surged through the room, rattling the chains and sending tremors across the floor. The whispers returned, louder, overlapping each other until they formed a single voice—a deep, resonant tone that filled every corner of the chamber.
"You seek knowledge that should remain buried…"
My breath hitched as the words echoed around me, filling the air with a foreboding weight. This was no ordinary voice. It was layered, ancient, as though it had existed for millennia. The chat erupted in shock.
: THAT VOICE! It sounded like a thousand voices at once!
: This is the scariest thing I've ever seen in a dungeon. Tsukasa, don't go further.
: Whatever's behind that door doesn't want you to leave. Be careful.
I took a steadying breath, fighting the urge to turn back. "Knowledge buried for a reason, huh?" I murmured to myself, staring at the door. "Well, sometimes we need to uncover the past to understand the present."
The voice returned, softer but clearer, each word heavy with intent.
"Then you shall witness… the beginning."
Before I could react, the chains around the door rattled violently, their glow intensifying until the entire chamber was bathed in an eerie, blue light. The symbols etched across the altar flared up, each one blazing with an intensity that made my skin prickle.
The ground trembled as the chains began to loosen, sliding off the door one by one, clattering to the ground in a metallic cascade. Kijin's growl grew louder, and Raijuu shifted, his muscles tensing as he prepared for what was about to emerge.
"Chat… this isn't just a dungeon boss," I muttered, my voice tight with apprehension. "We're dealing with something… older. Something that might not belong here at all."
The chat was buzzing with fear and speculation.
: Are you sure you're ready for this, Tsukasa? This feels like it's beyond EX-rank.
: Those chains were holding something back. If they're breaking, it means whatever's in there is coming out…
: This might be the first time I'm actually scared for you. Stay sharp!
The last chain fell to the ground with a deafening crash, and a moment of silence hung over the chamber, thick with anticipation. Then, slowly, the door creaked open, revealing a dark, impenetrable void within. The shadows shifted, coalescing into a form—something humanoid yet distorted, a figure wrapped in darkness with eyes that glowed like embers.
"I am the Keeper of the Forgotten,"
it intoned, its voice filling the air, resonant and chilling.
"You, who dare disturb my rest, shall bear the weight of my wrath."
The chat exploded with reactions as the figure stepped out, each of its movements fluid yet unsettling, as though reality itself warped around it.
: TSUKASA, THIS IS IT! THIS IS WHAT THE FLOOR WAS HIDING!
: Keeper of the Forgotten… that title sounds ominous. Be careful!
: This is beyond anything you've fought before. Don't underestimate it.
Kijin and Raijuu positioned themselves on either side of me, their eyes locked on the Keeper. I could feel their tension, their readiness to strike, but I knew this fight would be unlike any we'd encountered. The Keeper's gaze swept over us, cold and calculating, as if it could see through every layer of our defenses.
Without warning, the Keeper raised a hand, and the air around us thickened, pressing down like an invisible weight. My knees buckled, and even Kijin and Raijuu staggered, their usual strength seeming to drain in the presence of this overwhelming force.
"Kijin, Raijuu—stay sharp," I managed, gritting my teeth against the pressure. The Keeper's power was palpable, ancient and potent, and I knew we'd have to play this carefully.
The Keeper moved forward, its form shifting and flickering like a shadow cast by an unsteady flame. It lifted its hand again, sending a wave of darkness surging toward us. Kijin darted to the side, his movements swift as he avoided the attack, while Raijuu countered with a burst of lightning, the bolt crackling as it struck the Keeper's form.
The lightning hit, illuminating the chamber for a split second, but instead of recoiling, the Keeper absorbed the energy, its eyes glowing brighter as it advanced. My heart pounded as I realized that this creature was not only resilient but able to consume whatever energy we threw at it.
The chat was going wild, messages pouring in.
: It just absorbed Raijuu's lightning! This thing is on another level.
: How can you beat something that grows stronger with each attack?
: This might be the first time I'm actually scared for Tsukasa… This isn't looking good.
I clenched my fists, watching the Keeper's every movement. This wasn't a battle of brute force—it would require precision, strategy, and restraint. Kijin and Raijuu regrouped, their gazes fixed on the creature as they awaited my signal.
"Okay, new plan," I muttered, thinking quickly. "We can't rely on direct attacks. We'll need to find another way to weaken it."
The Keeper moved again, its shadowy form twisting as it raised both hands, summoning tendrils of darkness that snaked across the ground, reaching out to ensnare us. Kijin leapt into action, dodging the tendrils with fluid grace, while Raijuu darted forward, his movements blurring as he narrowly avoided being caught.
I watched closely, noticing that each time the Keeper's tendrils touched the ground, the symbols etched into the stone pulsed faintly, as if reacting to the creature's energy. An idea sparked in my mind.
"Kijin, Raijuu—try to drive it toward the altar!" I called, my voice steady. "We need to see if those symbols have any effect on it."
The chat caught onto my plan, the messages filling the screen with support and tension.
: Yes! The altar! Maybe it's a binding point or something that can weaken it.
: Genius move, Tsukasa! Use the environment against it!
: This is getting intense. I don't think my heart can take it.
Kijin and Raijuu shifted, their movements strategic as they worked together to herd the Keeper toward the altar. Kijin struck with swift, calculated blows, each one forcing the Keeper back a step, while Raijuu launched a series of feints, his lightning striking the ground to create diversions.
The Keeper seemed unfazed at first, but as it neared the altar, I noticed a faint flicker in its form, a hesitation in its movements. The symbols on the altar began to glow brighter, reacting to the creature's proximity, and the air grew colder, the pressure intensifying.
"Chat, I think we're onto something," I murmured, adrenaline surging as the plan started to take shape. "This altar… it's affecting the Keeper somehow."
: The symbols are lighting up! This has to be the key!
: It's working! Keep pushing it back, Tsukasa!
: This is like watching an epic boss fight. Don't let up!
With one final push, Kijin and Raijuu drove the Keeper back until it stood directly in front of the altar. The symbols flared to life, casting the chamber in an intense, blinding light, and the Keeper recoiled, its form flickering erratically as though it were struggling to hold itself together.
The air was thick with energy, and I could feel the weight of the altar's power pressing down on the Keeper, forcing it to its knees. For the first time, the creature's gaze faltered, its expression shifting from cold indifference to something that almost resembled fear.
"This… cannot… be…"
The voice was fractured, its resonance faltering as the light from the altar grew stronger, enveloping the Keeper in a cocoon of energy. I watched, heart pounding, as the creature's form began to dissipate, its body unraveling like smoke caught in a powerful gust of wind.
The chat was in a frenzy, cheering and speculating as the Keeper faded away.
: You did it! That was unreal!
: I can't believe that worked. Tsukasa, you're a genius!
: This is history in the making! Forbidden Floors conquered!
As the last remnants of the Keeper vanished, the chamber fell silent, the oppressive energy lifting. Kijin and Raijuu relaxed, their tension easing as they returned to my side. I exhaled, feeling the weight of the encounter settle over me.
In the aftermath, I glanced at the object I'd taken from the earlier chamber, its engravings now glowing faintly, as though it had been activated by the encounter. Whatever lay deeper within the Forbidden Floors, I knew we'd only begun to scratch the surface.
