Chapter 762 Accusations
"Maple!" Damien turned to look at his old friend and said, "I was waiting for you."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Maple's eyes instantly fell on the pendant that Damien was tightly holding in between his palms. "Why did you bring it back?" she asked in a voice full of shock as if Damien had done something that he shouldn't have.
"It was hurting Joyce," Damien answered to the point. And he asked Maple, "And it keeps on trying to latch itself back to her. Make it stop, please." Read exclusive adventures at empire
However, Maple outright denied that request from Damien. "There's a reason why it tried to go back to her! It's already a part of her identity now. You need to take it back to her. Right now."
"What reason? And what identity? Why do I need to take it back to her?" Damien shot a barrage of questions at Maple.
Maple was silent for a while.
Damien looked daggers at Maple thinking she was up to something bad. Even though she had helped him throughout the years, he never trusted her completely because of how mysterious she was. He wasn't going to do as Maple said unless she gave him a valid reason.
And seeing Damien unmoving from his spot, Maple finally answered him, "She will need the power of this plant in the future. That was the reason why I sent it to her through your hands in the first place. She–"
"Wait!" Damien scoffed at what he just heard. "Did you just say you sent this plant to her THROUGH me?"
Maple walked past Damien and then went to open the door of her shop.
Damien kept on standing there thinking back to how he first met Maple.
He recalled how Maple was the one who found him and introduced herself to him. He recalled how she was the one to give him tips on how to get that plant. And he also recalled how she had made that sealed container so that he could easily transport that plant to Earth.
Damien was angered beyond measure because he felt betrayed by Maple. He clenched his fists and instantly rushed inside to stand in front of Maple.
"Since when?" He glared at Maple and growled, "Since when were you moving me like a puppet? Have you been manipulating me into doing your bidding for my whole life? Why did you do that? What do you gain from using me like this?"
Maple didn't show any change in expression on her face. He calmly stood behind her work desk.
And then she answered him in the same calm manner, "I never had any bad intention, Damien. I always wanted the best for you. And I always wanted the best for Joyce as well."
"How can I believe you?" Damien slammed his fists indignantly on the desk, almost breaking it in two. And he snarled at Maple, "How can I believe you when all you've been doing is lying to me and manipulating the both of us?"
"Damien–" Maple tried to answer him but Damien didn't give a chance for her to speak.
He pointed his finger at Maple and accused her, "You are the one who has been whispering into Joyce's ears for all this while, aren't you?"
"I was merely trying to guide her into–"
"Ha!" Damien made a disgruntled face and shouted, "So, you were the one!"
He suddenly widened his eyes upon realizing something more.
"Oh, hell no!" He showed that rattling capsule to the frustrated lady and revealed what he had just uncovered, "And you have been keeping track of everything that's happening on the Earth realm through this capsule!"
Damien laughed out loud in rage. "That's how you knew Ariel had met Kenneth when you can't even leave this Hell, unlike me!"
"Ugh!" He ran his fingers through his reddish-brown hair in frustration.
And he pointed at the small carvings on the capsule and asked, "What do all these runes do? Apart from allowing you to spy and whisper to Joy? Are you the one to show such nightmares to Joyce? Why are you torturing her like that? Don't you have a bit of pity left in you that you are making her life a living hell?"
Maple had several frown lines on her forehead. When Damien finally stopped continuously accusing her, she looked Damien straight in the eyes and asked, "Are you done? Can I speak now?"
Damien glared back at her and said in anger, "Yes! It would be even better if you didn't lie to me. Because if you do, then I don't care if you're already dead. I am going to find a way to erase your very existence."
Maple wasn't affected by the threats that Damien was giving to her. She was more than capable of protecting herself.
But she cared about protecting her reputation. So, she answered Damien truthfully, "Can't you tell by now, Damien? Joyce is one of my descendent. That's why I care about her and want the best for her."
"Wait what?" Damien's head was already spinning from thinking about the possibility of Joyce being his half-sister. And now, Maple was also claiming to be related to Joyce. For a second, he felt as though Maple was mocking him.
"How can you be so sure?" he asked in a growl.
Maple sighed in disbelief and shook her head. "I thought you would have heard about me by now. It's been so many years since you know me. But I guess you are as clueless as ever."
Damien frowned and asked with the same bitterness, "Then give me the damn clue!"
Maple's long luscious hair began slightly floating behind her. Her body was emitting a subtle glow which made her look like a pure white rose that bloomed despite the harsh environment.
Damien could feel the presence of enormous energy around him. He almost felt as though he was in the presence of someone as powerful as Ariel's father, or any other celestials.
And Maple's voice echoed in his ears, "I am the first witch to ever exist. So, I know that Joyce is my descendant because all the witches and wizards are my blood."
What do you think?
