Chapter 143: Liquid Treasure
Slowly, I lifted my left arm, positioning my wrist above the goblet, and with a practiced ease, I made a precise cut along the surface of my skin using the prepared knife.
The golden liquid began to seep, gleaming in the low light, like molten sunbeams encased in glass.
As the blood flowed, I watched Kuzunoha's face—she was utterly transfixed, her gaze fixed on each precious droplet of gold as if they held all the secrets of the universe.
This reminded me of what happened to Daffodil and that heartless witch.
Well, atleast, I got myself partnered with an eccentric one.
Kuzunoha exhaled in quiet awe as the goblet filled, her usual composure softened by the gravity of the moment.
This wasn't merely a substance to her—it was the essence of a miraculous healing power, an ancient relic, a legend foretold in the lost history of Carcosa—one she had only dreamed of.
For the first time, I saw her approach something with reverence.
Which made me think. How could she not find someone to be a test subject for the Xenogene Injector this whole time?
The only reason that I could think of was that, she only got hand on the Theotech relic, she practically had no one she could approach thanks to her loner tendency, there was a conflict in her disposition that didn't allow her to carelessly give out any of her belongings to others.
Other than that, I also noticed that this body was essentially a fountain of blood, due to the lack of side-effects from the amount of blood-loss that I experienced from the start of my journey as Narcissus.
The zero-sanity vision about Daffodil also helped me reach that very conclusion.
"... Valtherion Blood," Kuzunoha murmured, her voice just above a whisper. She held the goblet up, admiring the way the golden liquid caught the light, casting flickers across her features. Her eyes, usually narrowed with sarcasm or mischief, were wide with admiration as she studied the blood's luminous sheen. "The stories and records about it didn't do it justice. This is… an utter perfection."
It was akin to witnessing an avid collector getting their hands on a precious object in their field.
"How long are you going to keep admiring it?" I teased, though I didn't rush her. I, too, appreciated her fascination. "You gazed at that blood so passionately, I almost feel jealous that it wasn't directed to me~"
At my words, she glanced up, her gaze simmering with something rare—a warmth that nearly made me forget her usual barbed tongue. "Patience, Narcissus. Something this exquisite deserves a proper moment."
It wasn't everytime that I got called Narcissus by her. Seeing someone who cares nary of keeping one's name, it really did make me feel accomplished at gaining her trust.
Nerve-wracking, Kuzunoha raised the goblet to her lips, inhaling the faint metallic, yet somehow invigorating scent.
When she finally took a sip, her eyes fluttered shut, and I watched as she visibly melted into the taste, her entire frame easing as if relieved of an invisible burden. The effect was almost instantaneous; a deep, shuddering breath escaped her, and I could see her mind grappling with the overwhelming sensation.
It wasn't until that there was a strong vivid sign of ecstasy taking place on her fevered red face, as if she had just indulged in something forbidden, something that even gods would like to covet for their own possession.
"This…" she whispered, her voice thick with emotions, "…is unlike anything I could have imagined." She swallowed her saliva as the aftermath, visibly savoring the taste and the profound vitality coursing through her.
Her hands tightened around the goblet as if anchoring herself from the overwhelming tidal, and when she opened her eyes, they held a dazed glint, as though the sheer pleasure of the blood had taken her momentarily beyond herself.
"Seeing how satisfied you're, it makes me want to take a sip of my own blood," I remarked, watching her expression, noting the quiet transformation it had brought. She looked… softer. Momentarily vulnerable, as though the very essence of the blood had tempered her habitual defenses. "So, what do you think?"
She laughed softly, a sound devoid of its usual edge. "Essentially, it is irreplaceable."
Another sip, and I watched as her face melted into an expression of absolute bliss. The profound healing powers of the blood were likely restoring her vitality in ways she'd never experienced, soothing her animaphage cravings with a potency that ordinary blood could never achieve.
After a moment, she glanced at me, a quiet but profound gratitude in her eyes. "This is… something else entirely," she murmured. "You've granted me more than just a taste, Narcissus. The taste of this blood isn't fully attributed by the fact that it is a Valtherion Blood. No~
"This Valtherion Blood became this enjoyable and priceless because it's yours." She swirled the remaining blood in the goblet, admiring the lingering shimmer. "And I'm curious about its potential quality depending on your mental and physical state at the moment of extraction.
"An Animaphage doesn't only taste the physicality of the blood when they consume them, after all. We also took a fair peek at the emotion, soul, and also the mind of the owner of the blood~"
"What did you peek at when you passionately savored my blood, then?"
"A lot of things, surprisingly." Kuzunoha giggled. "Pride, satisfaction, longing, strength~
"And many other factors that might also conflict with one another, yet exist harmoniously within the vessel of the liquid gold~" She grinned. "I also tasted your towering willpower and hope for a better future, something that I find quite adorable to digest."
Well, I did expect that there would be a day where she would uncover me naked, but never would have I thought that it would be this way.
"I hope that with this, our partnership will be even more stronger and meaningful as time goes by." I said with my chin resting on the bridge of my fingers. "I will happily be providing you with my blood as long as you don't get on my bad side."
