Book 2: Chapter 138: Balancing Firmness and Gentleness
Vol 2 Chapter 138: Balancing Firmness and Gentleness
“It really is like that!”
Zhang Xuan breathed a sigh of relief.
The Blue Foxes appeared precisely on the path they had already traversed—a route they had thoroughly scouted earlier. The absence of any prior danger confirmed his hypothesis: their presence was tied to the activation of Fox Charm Destiny.
“What should we do, Zhang Xuan?”
Fu Yingying, catching on but still uneasy at the sight of the four ferocious Blue Foxes, turned to Zhang Xuan, her eyes filled with panic.
“Go forward, use your charm ability, and try to enchant them,” Zhang Xuan instructed with a wave of his hand.
“Me? Go up there?”
Fu Yingying’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She was only at the peak of the Dharma Aspect Realm, while these Blue Foxes were at the Star River Realm, one even at the second level. The gap was so vast that she feared she wouldn’t even have time to charm them before being torn to shreds.“Go on, nothing will happen to you,” Zhang Xuan reassured her.
Trusting that he wouldn’t send her into danger without a plan, Fu Yingying steeled herself despite her fear. She gritted her teeth.
“Fine, but stay ready. If anything goes wrong, save me immediately…”
With a deep breath, she stepped toward the Blue Foxes.
“That man is such a coward!”
Fu Weiwei, standing nearby, didn’t hear their conversation. All she saw was Zhang Xuan calmly standing behind while directing her "goddess" to engage the threat. Disgust filled her eyes.
When danger had struck earlier, Shen Wujun had fled but at least tried to hold the line for a moment. This guy didn’t even pretend—he just let her goddess walk into danger.
Unable to hold back, Fu Weiwei shouted, “Sister Yingying, let me help you—”
“Get lost!” Fu Yingying snapped.
“Okay!” Fu Weiwei meekly backed away.
Now standing in front of the four Blue Foxes, Fu Yingying faced their sharp fangs, gleaming like icy daggers, ready to tear her apart at any moment.
Suppressing her inner fear, she activated her Fox Charm Destiny. Her fingers caressed her cheek, exposing her slender neck. She let her hand glide downward, stopping lightly on her chest. With a faint touch, her shirt slipped slightly open.
“Awuu?”
The four Blue Foxes exchanged glances before their faces contorted in rage, as if deeply insulted. With fierce howls, they lunged at Fu Yingying in unison.
“Ah!”
All composure forgotten, Fu Yingying screamed and staggered back. “Save me!”
“Don’t retreat! Use your power from the Second Stage and keep going!” Zhang Xuan called out, unmoving.
Though still terrified, Fu Yingying trusted him and hurriedly channeled her newly advanced Fox Charm Destiny. She unleashed her full allure without reservation.
Fu Weiwei, watching from the sidelines, was thoroughly impressed. Her eyes grew misty, filled with admiration.
However, the Blue Foxes only grew angrier. Their furious howls echoed incessantly, their hostility reaching new heights. If they had been merely wary before, they now seemed ready to rip her apart.
“Do you know how to charm Source Beasts?” A sudden realization struck Zhang Xuan, and he shouted out.
Unlike humans, beasts responded differently to allure. Actions that might confuse or excite people could provoke animals instead.
If I’m about to eat you and you start taking off your clothes… what, do you think I’d choke on them?
It was akin to vegetables preparing themselves for the pot—a bizarre and offensive gesture to the eater.
“I’ve learned a bit… I’ll try!” Fu Yingying quickly adjusted her approach.
Her previously soft, alluring posture straightened abruptly, becoming bold and commanding. She lifted her chin and bellowed fiercely, “Stop right there!”
Where moments ago she had been a delicate and dainty girl, she now transformed into a wrathful figure, exuding the aura of an imposing Vajra.
The effect was immediate.
The four lunging Blue Foxes paused, exchanging uncertain glances before taking hesitant steps back.
“Not bad, keep going!” Zhang Xuan encouraged with a nod.
Beasts, like animals, respected strength. Being overly polite or timid only invited attack.
“Understood!”
Her confidence bolstered, Fu Yingying took another step forward, her face filled with anger and a murderous aura that seemed ready to strike down anyone who opposed her.
The Blue Foxes retreated further, whispering among themselves, as though deliberating their next move.
“Divide and conquer. Enchant them one by one,” Zhang Xuan instructed through voice transmission.
“Got it!”
Fu Yingying turned her attention to one of the foxes, letting her expression soften into a gentle smile. “Come here, I’ll play with you…”
Her voice was soothing and paired with graceful movements that confused the fox. Its initial hostility gave way to a dazed expression.
“It’s working…”
Encouraged, Fu Yingying moved closer, extending her hand to stroke the fox’s head. The other foxes tried to approach, but she shooed them away sternly.
Her distinct treatment for this one fox seemed to make a difference. Its once-cloudy eyes began to clear. Moments later, the fox wagged its tail like a loyal dog and knelt before her—it had been successfully enchanted!
“I get it now!”
A look of exhilaration lit up Fu Yingying’s face. Her understanding of Fox Charm Destiny deepened.
Charming wasn’t just about constant gentleness. A balance of firmness and softness—sometimes a mix of threat and reward—often achieved the best results.
It was like dealing with persistent admirers. If one always showered them with affection, they’d take it for granted. Maintaining a certain distance while giving small rewards encouraged their longing and admiration—the essence of charm.
With her deepened comprehension, Zhang Xuan felt his own Fox Charm Destiny advance yet again, much to his dismay.
“Stop dawdling. Charm the rest quickly—we need to work faster. If Fu Jingjing and the others figure this out, they’ll catch up soon,” Zhang Xuan interrupted her excitement with a stern reminder.
Though Zhang Xuan considered himself smart, Fu Jingjing and her group weren’t fools. If they pieced together the pattern, it would become a race to gather enough Falling Earth Pearls.
“Yes!”
Though unsure of his exact thoughts, Fu Yingying didn’t dare disobey her "male god." She immediately turned to enchant the remaining three Blue Foxes.
With the experience of charming the first, the next three fell under her spell much faster. Smiling gently, she addressed the group, “Can you lead us to the Falling Earth Pearls?”
“Awuu~”
All four foxes nodded enthusiastically, their tails wagging as they scrambled over each other to lead the way. None wanted to lag behind and miss the chance to impress their new goddess.
“Let’s follow them!” Zhang Xuan commanded, striding after the eager foxes.
