Chapter 98 Oni Players

"We need to move now!" Aria hissed amidst the chaos. "If we get caught up in this, we'll never make it to the 103rd floor."

"But they'll come after us if we run!" Torin moved his bow frantically around, pointing it from one player to the next.

"They'll come after us if we stay," August countered. His mind was racing as he calculated their options. "We need to find an opening and slip through."

The berserker leader, now severely injured, staggered to his feet. He pointed at August's group. "If we're going down, you're coming with us!"

He charged toward them, but Gareth stepped forward, raising his shield.

The berserker's attack clanged against Gareth's shield, but the force pushed him back several feet.

Drask roared, swinging his massive axe at the berserker, and landing a devastating blow.

[ System Notification: Drask uses Berserker Fury. Critical Hit! Berserker takes -1900 HP. ]

August grabbed one of his Daggers and flung it forward.

"One down," Drask muttered.

The clearing erupted into a full-blown battle as August's group tried to slip away while engaging with some of the players. Spells flew, weapons clashed, and the confined space amplified the chaos.

Despite the overwhelming odds, August and his group fought valiantly. But it was clear that Drakos and his team were on a different level as they leveled one player after the other.

"Don't let them separate us!" Gareth shouted while blocking a powerful strike from another party warrior.

"We need to get to the passageway!" August voiced with a sharp tone. "If we stay here, we're done for!"

Aria nodded. "Everyone, push forward! We'll deal with them on the 103rd floor if we have to!"

With a combined effort, the group began to push their way toward the passageway.

...

...

In the real world, the Ice Queen, Elena Frost, sat at the head of a modern boardroom table.

Her pristine white suit was tailored perfectly to her figure. The walls were lined with holographic screens displaying real-time data from Enders Light, including maps, guild stats, and mission progress.

A soft vibration from the high-tech equipment filled the room, underscoring the quiet intensity of her work.

Seated on either side of her were two subordinates—Kenji, a sharp-eyed strategist with a penchant for details, and Marian, a tech analyst who managed guild logistics in both the real world and in-game. Both were engrossed in their respective tablets, feeding Elena updates.

Elena tapped her manicured fingers against the table as she listened to Kenji outline the current developments.

"Aria's party has made significant progress," Kenji said, swiping his screen to project a holographic map of the Swordking's Dungeon. Red and blue markers represented various guild and enemy parties, and a gold marker signified Aria's location. "They've just reached the 102nd floor and are on track to be the first group to clear the dungeon."

Elena's icy blue eyes narrowed as she studied the map. "What about the other parties from our guild? How far have they progressed?"

Marian chimed in with a crisp tone. "Three other parties from our guild are currently within the dungeon. The second furthest one is on the 96th floor. They're making progress but nowhere near Aria's pace. The others are stuck between floors 80 and 90, facing considerable resistance."

"And external guilds?" Elena asked, her tone sharp but calm. "How many are still in the dungeon?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Kenji scrolled through a list. "Quite a few. Most are concentrated between floors 70 and 90. However, we're receiving reports of parties clustering on floor 102. It seems to be a chokepoint due to a combination of traps, enemies, and narrow passageways."

Elena leaned back in her chair with a thoughtful expression. "Aria's group needs to push past the 102nd floor quickly. If they get bogged down there, the competition will only intensify."

Marian nodded. "Understood. I'll send them a message to prioritize speed. The further they get ahead, the better their chances."

Kenji suddenly stiffened as a new update came in. His brows furrowed, and he exchanged a tense glance with Marian.

"What is it?" Elena inquired as her piercing gaze snapped to him.

"New intel on floor 102," Kenji said grimly. "Aria's party is currently engaged in a skirmish with multiple other groups. But that's not all... There's a player named Drakos involved."

Elena froze as her expression shifted from composed to deeply concerned. "Drakos? Are you certain?"

Kenji nodded. "Yes, the name and description match. He's part of the Oni terrorist group. You know their reputation—they're relentless, brutal, and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their objectives. They've already been linked to several real-world crimes involving Enders Light players."

Elena's usual calm demeanor slipped as she tightened his fist. "Drakos isn't just a problem. He's a walking disaster. If he's there, it's not just about clearing the dungeon anymore. He's after the fruit of sin."

Marian interjected nervously. "Should we warn Aria and her group?"

"Immediately," Elena voiced with a colder tone than usual. "Send a message to Aria. Tell her and the others to avoid Drakos at all costs. Do not engage him unless absolutely necessary. Their priority is to move forward, not to get entangled in his chaos."

Kenji nodded as his fingers flew over his tablet while he drafted the message. "Understood. I'll phrase it as a direct order."

Elena paced slowly as her thoughts raced. "Drakos isn't the kind of player who fights fair. He is by no means a low-level player either. If Aria's group tries to confront him head-on, they won't just lose a level—they'll lose the dungeon and if the rumors about the Onis are true they could potentially lose their avatars."

Marian hesitated before speaking. "What are the chances that Aria and her team can evade him? The 102nd floor isn't exactly expansive."

Elena exhaled sharply. "They'll need to be smart about it. Use every trick they have to outmaneuver him and his group."

Kenji looked up. "Message sent. Should we consider sending more reinforcements from Phoenix Celestial?"

Elena shook her head. "No. There's no point to that. They won't be able to get to the lowest floors so quickly. Aria's team has to handle this on their own for now unless help comes from the other party that is the closest to the 102nd floor."

Marian bit her lip. "What if Drakos manages to defeat them and get the fruit of sin?"

Elena turned back to the holographic map, locking on the blinking gold marker that represented Aria's team. Despite her cold exterior, a flicker of worry crossed her face.

"Well, we can only hope that doesn't happen," she muttered under her breath.

...

...

The 102nd floor was still filled with chaos. Spells exploded, swords clashed, and players shouted orders and curses.

Drakos and his two companions, Lyriss and Orlma, carved a path of destruction through the disarray.

Drakos charged into a group of players, activating his "Raging Maelstrom" skill activated and spinning with his sword extended.

His spinning blade created a swirling vortex of energy that knocked everyone in his vicinity off their feet.

Players scrambled to regroup, but before they could, his massive sword cleaved through two of them in one swift motion. System notifications flashed above their heads as they lost a level and respawned outside the dungeon.

[System Notification: Player "Zathor" has been defeated by Drakos. -1 Level.]

[System Notification: Player "Lucienne" has been defeated by Drakos. -1 Level.]

Lyriss darted between players like a shadow. Her movements were almost unnatural in their fluidity. She wielded dual daggers, and with every strike, blood sprayed as she hit critical points with surgical precision.

[System Notification: Lyriss has used "Phantom Strike." Critical Damage: -7,890 HP.]

[System Notification: Lyriss has used "Assassin's Kiss." Instant Kill Activated.]

Orlma stood at the center of it all like a calm anchor amidst the storm. She raised her staff, summoning a massive protective barrier while unleashing devastating spells. A surge of ice shot from her staff, freezing three players solid before shattering them into shards with a follow-up fireball.

[System Notification: Orlma has used "Frigid Pyre." Combined Damage: -12,000 HP.]

In the distance, August and his group tried to stay out of sight. Torin motioned for them to move quickly with a tense expression. "We have to get through that passageway before this gets any worse."

Aria received a ping and opened her guild messages. Her eyes widened as she read the urgent note from a senior member of Phoenix Celestial. "Guys," her voice shook slightly as she spoke. "I just got a warning. Drakos and his group—he's part of the Oni terrorist group. We're not supposed to engage them. We need to avoid them at all costs."

Torin cursed under his breath. "No kidding. They're practically slaughtering everyone here!"

The group moved cautiously, weaving through the chaos and using debris and crumbling pillars for cover. They occasionally froze as Drakos or Lyriss glanced in their direction, but luck was on their side. Slowly but surely, they managed to sneak closer to the passageway.

They were within feet of the entrance when August paused. His brows furrowed as he peered over his shoulder. His eyes widened when he spotted a familiar group arriving through the carnage.

"Lilo… Ezran… Boris?" August whispered. His heart sank as he saw his old friends entering the battlefield, flanked by three other players he didn't recognize. They were immediately confronted by Drakos.
