Chapter 17

C17 – Basic Blade Technique

The Wei family, though renowned for their Pills, placed considerable emphasis on martial prowess. A strong martial force is the most fundamental assurance of a family’s enduring survival.

The founding ancestor of the Wei family was a master swordsman, and after centuries, the Wei family’s disciples predominantly became swordsmen.

The family patriarch, Wei Bochen, earned the moniker “Blade Whisperer.” Legend has it that his enemies would fall to his sword, unable to utter a single word, a testament to the Wei family’s formidable swordsmanship.

In the Wei family’s Martial Arts Pavilion, sword techniques were the mainstay.

Wei Lulin, without a specific preference for any particular weapon or martial skill, was shaped by his birthright in the Wei family to pursue the art of the sword.

Significantly, among the deceased of the Jiaang family was a young man wielding a Ten-refinement Steel Blade, a weapon ideally suited for Lulin’s use.

While the Wei family gained fame for their Pills, the Jiaang family was known for their weaponry, celebrated not only in Yao Country but also across numerous neighboring kingdoms.

The Jiaang family’s weapons were distinguished by their unique forging technique, which involved multiple tempering processes, significantly enhancing the weapons’ hardness and sharpness.

Warriors at the Qi Refining Stage wielded Spiritual Force, a volatile energy that ordinary weapons could not withstand. Only specially forged weapons could harness the full potential of Spiritual Force.

A warrior at the Qi Refining Stage required a Ten-refinement Weapon, but upon advancing to the Body Refining Stage, a Hundred Refining Weapon was necessary to accommodate the increased limits of their Spiritual Force.

For those surpassing the Body Refining Stage, mortal weapons were inadequate for their power. As warriors break through this stage, their Spiritual Force transforms in ways that Wei Lulin had yet to experience or understand.

He tightly grasped the hilt of the blade with his left hand, his palm nearly touching the blade itself. He positioned the spine of the blade against his palm, steadying his mind and calming his breath.

He stepped to the right with his left foot, pivoting his body to the left and shifting his weight onto his left leg. As he did so, he let out a soft shout.

At that moment, Wei Lulin’s mind was filled with at least dozens of blade techniques, including some advanced ones. Yet, he didn’t opt for these sophisticated methods; instead, he chose the most basic Blade Technique.

As someone from the modern era, Wei Lulin valued the fundamentals. He also recognized that the simpler the technique, the more powerful it became once mastered.

The Basic Blade Technique for the Blade Artifact was straightforward compared to other weapons’ complex moves, consisting of only 14 techniques.

These techniques might seem simple, but mastering each one was challenging.

Perhaps it was due to his dual souls, or his emphasis on the Basic Blade Technique, but when he first practiced it, he executed most of the moves with precision, only the last few coming off as slightly rigid.

Wei Lulin practiced with great diligence, attempting to connect with the Ten-refinement Steel Blade in his hands, aspiring to achieve the state of unity between the swordsman and the blade.

However, this was merely wishful thinking.

He was just a Qi Refining Stage Level Two practitioner, a novice by any standard. Even those who had surpassed the Body Refining Stage struggled to reach the unity with the blade.

Before one could achieve this unity, they must first grasp the Blade Intent.

After over ten attempts, he realized he couldn’t reach the unity he desired. Abandoning this unrealistic fantasy, he devoted himself to mastering the Basic Blade Technique.

For three days, Wei Lulin practiced the fourteen fundamental saber moves. He had mastered the first seven but was still somewhat unfamiliar with the last seven. He wasn’t overly disappointed, though, as the latter moves, while seemingly simple, were intricately linked to the first seven. He knew he needed more time to practice.

As he continued to refine his technique, he began experimenting with enhancing the power of his blade moves using Spiritual Force.

However, the Spiritual Force within his meridians could only sustain the first three techniques. Beyond that, he was unable to execute any further moves due to insufficient Spiritual Force.

He exhaled and sheathed his blade, casting a final glance at the cave that had been his shelter for a month. His expression was a mix of emotions as he shook his head slightly.

“It’s time for me to go.” The Red-eye Blood Wolf’s scent had vanished without a trace over the past month. Just yesterday, while out gathering fruits, he had noticed signs of magical beasts in the vicinity. Moreover, without a Spirit Stone to aid him, the Spiritual Qi within the cave had thinned dramatically due to his constant absorption. It was time to move on.

His possessions were few. He tucked a silver note worth five hundred gold coins into his pocket and gripped his Ten-refinement Steel Blade. These were all his worldly goods.

Wei Lulin took a deep breath as he looked around the cave that had become so familiar. With a solemn expression, he turned and stepped out into a new beginning.

Once outside the tunnel, he inhaled the fresh air deeply, feeling an immediate uplift in his spirits. Wei Lulin didn’t rush away but instead channeled Spiritual Force into his blade, methodically chopping up the rocks at the cave’s entrance and using the debris to seal it off.

After ensuring the entrance was thoroughly concealed, he camouflaged it further. Confident that it would remain undiscovered, he finally turned to leave.

He had sealed the entrance partly because this place marked the beginning of his transformation, a place etched into his memory forever.

Additionally, the cave’s seclusion made it an exceptionally safe haven, virtually impossible to locate without a map.

Wei Lulin had grown far stronger than his former self. Ahead of him lay a life brimming with challenges. Should he face danger or insurmountable crises, this hidden refuge would serve as one of his escape routes.

Throughout the month, Wei Lulin had occasionally ventured out to forage for fruits, becoming well-acquainted with the area. With this knowledge, he navigated the safest path away from the territory of the Grade Nine Magical Beast.

Though he was only at Level Two of the Qi Refining Stage, a mere beginner, his strength was undeniably greater than it had been a month prior. His most notable gain was the marked increase in his speed.

At this moment, his speed had increased to at least tenfold compared to a month ago, yet Wei Lulin was far from content. The Wei family possessed numerous martial skills that were relatively easy to master, but they all required a minimum of Qi Refining Stage Level Four to practice.

The benchmark for reaching Level Four of the Qi Refining Stage is the formation of a minor circulatory system within the twelve meridians, enabling the autonomous generation of Spiritual Force within them. Thus, a martial artist at Level Four of the Qi Refining Stage, in terms of both the quantity of Spiritual Force and their recovery capabilities, is more than ten times greater than those at Level Three.

Currently, the limitations of his speed only intensified his drive to further enhance his strength.
