His Genius Wife Is A Superstar

Chapter 1594 Goodbye, Grandma Li (Part VII)

1594  Goodbye, Grandma Li (Part VII)

It was an especially long night for everyone at the Jin family house. Except for the children, cats, and dogs, almost everyone acted as if they had been numbed. They just felt too exhausted these past few weeks—and drained.

Inside Jin Liwei's bedroom which was now the couple's bedroom, Iris stepped out of the ensuite bathroom to find her husband nowhere in sight.

The twins were already asleep on their crib bed along with Ice Cream. Popcorn should be staying with his favourite human cousin, Little Jun, in another room.

The German Shepherd guard dogs, Pudding and Chowder, raised their heads when they sensed her presence. Their tails wagged as a greeting before returning to sleep on cushions below the crib bed.

Iris checked on the twins before peeking at the balcony. As expected, her husband was there. She sighed before turning around to take two coats from the wardrobe. She wore one and then stepped out onto the balcony.

"Why did you come out?" Jin Liwei asked when he heard the balcony door open. "It's so cold out tonight."

She glared at him before handing him a thick coat. He was wearing a coat but it was too thin for her liking.

"Wear this," she told him.

He was about to protest but upon seeing the look in his wife's eyes, he balked and obediently wore the thicker coat over the coat he was already wearing. He immediately felt warmer. In just a minute, he already began sweating under the double coats. He didn't mention it to his wife, though. The two of them had different temperatures that they felt comfortable with. His was colder while hers was hotter.

"What did you and Eldest Brother Yehan talk about earlier?" Iris asked.

Jin Liwei didn't reply right away.

She narrowed her eyes, sensing his hesitation. "Tell me."

He sighed. "Long Hui apparently contacted Jiang Ying Yue. Eldest Brother Yehan was the one who answered the call. Long Hui apparently wants to reconcile with Jiang Ying Yue. He wants to ask her to give him more visitation rights for Little Jun."

Iris pursed her lips. It seemed that what Long Jian told her earlier today was true.

"Eldest Brother Yehan didn't want to add to my problems, especially with Grandma…with her…passing away…but he could only turn to me, to us, because he and Jiang Ying Yue consider us as Little Jun's second parents." n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Iris nodded. She and her husband also considered themselves as their godson's second set of parents. They were not only Little Jun's godparents but also his legal guardians if—heavens forbid—something ever happened to Jiang Ying Yue and Lin Yehan.

Hopefully, it would never come to that point.

"What did you advise Eldest Brother Yehan?" Iris asked.

This was the first time that she had heard about this. It seemed that Jiang Ying Yue didn't know about this yet either. If she did, Jiang Ying Yue would surely consult with her first especially since it involved Long Hui, the original Long Xiulan's eldest half-brother.

"I told Eldest Brother Yehan to change his and Jiang Ying Yue's phone numbers," he said. "A new custody contract had already been drafted, signed by both parties and notarized. It's a legally binding contract. Long Hui had agreed to sign the contract, so he must follow it whether he likes it or not. Now he wants to change it? Tough luck for him. Even if Jiang Ying Yue's heart softens again, I won't allow it. Our godson has suffered enough."

"You're right." Iris agreed with her husband's opinions wholeheartedly. "It hasn't even been that long since our godson's kidnapping. He might look okay now but that's due to his own resilience. It's also thanks to Dr. Poon's effective therapy methods. All of us can't be careless and risk triggering the child's trauma. That would be too sinful of us."

"En." Jin Liwei's expression was cold, but his eyes burned with fury. "I don't know what that Long Hui is planning, but I can't let him use our godson as a weapon."

"He dares." She bared her teeth at the full moon as if she wanted to take a bite out of it.

If only it were Long Hui's head.

Then she mentioned to her husband what Long Jian told her earlier. Jin Liwei listened before nodding.

"Long Jian is right. You should be cautious of Long Hui, love. He might just be pretending to change for the better to lower our guards and attack when we least expect it."

"After what happened to Little Jun, I would never believe Long Hui's promises again," she said. "I also hope that Ying Yue remains firm. But I'm sure that with Eldest Brother Yehan beside her, Long Hui wouldn't be able to easily sway her again. The kidnapping might not be Long Hui's direct fault, but it was because of his choices that his ex-wife's family decided to harm Little Jun. I'll never forgive the Maos for what they did to our godson, Liwei. Never."

"En. Me neither."

Silence descended between the husband and wife.

Both of them allowed their righteous anger to fill them up but not consume them. What they should focus on was supporting their godson in his recovery from trauma, and most importantly, protecting him so that something like the kidnapping would never happen to him ever again.

"Tomorrow," Jin Liwei broke the silence first.

Iris glanced at him.

"The lawyer will be coming tomorrow morning," he said. "He's going to read Grandma's last will and testament."

She hugged his waist. His arms automatically wrapped around her. His chin rested on top of her head.

"I still can't believe that my grandmother is now gone."

There were no tears in his eyes, but his voice was filled with undeniable grief.

She hugged him tighter.

"I'm just glad," Jin Liwei said, sighing.

"Glad?" she asked, confused.

"En. I'm glad that Grandma Li passed away without suffering too much. You saw her face when she passed away, right? She looked so peaceful, almost happy to go. Maybe she couldn't wait to be with my grandfather and father."

"Maybe," she whispered. The two continued hugging each other. One gave comfort, and the other drew comfort.
