Chapter 165 The Black-Robed Figure's Identity

Linsley's fingers tightened around the gem in his hand, and he glanced at Fulminis and Zephyrax, hoping that the artifact's presence concealment and invisibility were still intact.

But when he looked back at the figure, he froze. Those crimson eyes were locked on him with an unnatural awareness, as if the gem's effects were entirely futile against this being.

The figure's mouth curved into a faint, unnatural smile, and Linsley felt a wave of dread settle over him.

"Linsley," Zephyrax whispered, his voice tense, "I don't think we're hidden anymore."

Linsley nodded slowly, his mind racing. If their concealment had been pierced, their only option was to attack and hope they could break free from this being's influence long enough to gain a chance for a counterattack.

Steeling his resolve, Linsley reached into his reserves of power, allowing his flux to stir as he prepared for a preemptive strike.

"Stay focused," he muttered to Fulminis and Zephyrax. "We disrupt, strike, and retreat if needed. Do not look directly at it as much as possible."

Just as he was about to launch his first attack, the figure's voice echoed through his mind, a low, mocking tone that reverberated within his head.

"Did you really think…you could hide from me?"

Hearing the mocking words of the black-robed figure, Linsley immediately felt as if he was about to die. Not only him—Fulminis and Zephyrax felt the same.

Before the three of them could react, something rapidly shot out from the black-robed figure's back, and countless black afterimages flashed before their eyes.

Linsley felt his body being torn apart, and he wasn't wrong, as Fulminis and Zephyrax experienced the same.

Their bodies were shredded at a rapid speed by the black tentacles released by the black-robed figure, moving so fast they couldn't even react.

In under a second, Fulminis and Zephyrax were dead, while Linsley's physical body was obliterated.

Not a single atom of Linsley's body was preserved, everything erased at an atomic level by the black-robed figure's tentacles.

Just as the black-robed figure was about to leave, it noticed that Linsley had reappeared out of nowhere, seeming to have recovered from its attack.

Looking at the spots where Fulminis and Zephyrax had been but were now gone, Linsley cursed, 'Shit! That was close! If not for my gold-grade Physical Immortality talent, I would have died with Fulminis and Zephyrax.'

Though not even a single atom of his physical body had remained, Linsley could still recover and reappear with his entire body in just under a second, as if revived with full health thanks to his Physical Immortality (Gold) talent.

Seeing Linsley appear as if he hadn't been harmed, the black-robed figure seemed annoyed, as though its dignity had been trampled by Linsley's survival.

Because of this, the black-robed figure attacked again.

This time, however, Linsley was prepared. Instead of using his Real Fantasy gift to protect himself, he stood his ground and secretly used his Social Distancing (Purple) talent.

After activating his Social Distancing (Purple) talent, Linsley saw the black-robed figure's tentacles halt about two meters in front of him.

It was as if an infinite amount of distance was needed to cross within two meters of him, allowing Linsley to maintain social distancing from his opponent.

In most cases, the Social Distancing (Purple) talent seemed useless, especially in the real world, since he had his Invisible Providence Ascendence avatar, which allowed him to create invisible tentacles that prevented enemies from approaching.

However, that was only because his opponents had always been weaker than him. If he were facing someone much stronger, the Social Distancing (Purple) talent would be far more useful, as it could block all attacks regardless of his reaction speed, as long as he had the energy to maintain it.

The black-robed figure's attacks were powerful, and Linsley's flux was draining rapidly just to keep the social distancing barrier up.

Seeing his attacks being blocked, the black-robed figure sneered, "Your gift is powerful, but it's no match for an Outer God's avatar like myself."

"Your flux is being rapidly drained just from preventing my attacks from reaching you. You won't last long and will die here."

The black-robed figure was patient, standing there and waiting for Linsley's flux to run out so his tentacle attacks could reach him.

Because of that, Linsley and the black-robed figure, who had revealed himself as the Outer God's avatar, were locked in a stalemate. However, it was clear that Linsley was at a significant disadvantage; his energy wasn't infinite, and in another minute, his flux would undoubtedly be depleted.

Staring down the black-robed figure, Linsley thought, 'I was worried about the Outer God hiding in this world, but it looks like he's finally appeared. Even though it's only the avatar, it's powerful enough to reach Level 9.9 Overlord.'

'The gap between a Level 9.8 Overlord and a Level 9.9 Overlord is bigger than I expected. Or maybe this bastard isn't truly a Level 9.9 Overlord but is only able to show that level of power because of the universe's suppression rules.'

Linsley knew that Outer Gods were generally weaker than typical gods of the same power level. So, no matter how large the gap was between a Level 9.8 Overlord and a Level 9.9 Overlord, it seemed unlikely it would be so massive that even Zephyrax and he couldn't respond to its attacks.

The only remaining possibility was that the Outer God's avatar was indeed stronger than Level 9.9 but was having his power suppressed.

Linsley couldn't help but think of Zephyrax and Fulminis, whom he had taken time to conquer, only for them to die before even a day had passed since they pledged to him. Still, he couldn't blame them for being weak—he himself would have died if not for his Physical Immortality (Gold) talent.

'No wonder the Phoenix Continent was massacred and none of the phoenix clan's powerhouses survived. If any had survived, I'd have to assume it was part of some conspiracy by the Outer God's avatar. But with their complete extermination, it's clear the avatar had a specific reason for wiping them out.'

'The only option I have now to break this stalemate is to attempt to break the bottleneck and reach Level 9.9 Overlord!'
