Chapter 208: Annihilating the Blood Oracle members (a)
The sky was a bright yellow. It was late in the afternoon, and the sun shone, scattering yellowish rays throughout the Tenth Floor and the Grand Canyon was entirely illuminated.
One could hear the running of water from the nearby streams and the roar of magical beasts.
"Hahaha, these past few days have been satisfying. I could have never thought that we will be making this much profit from hunting rabbits. This safe hunting is far better than the fine dancing we used to do in the thin line of life and death." Chaim said while laughing wildly. He was extremely satisfied with the loot they have gathered from killing weak contestants in the past few weeks.
He was a man with crooked teeth and a hairless head. A scary scar ran down his eyes, reaching his lips. Around twenty or so people sat around him. All of them were wearing an amulet made out of bones. They all had an equally insane look in their eyes.
"Yeah! At least we do not need to participate in the realm missions anymore to increase our powers. In the past, so many of our brothers died for no reason because of the greed of the nobles. The military didn't care for us. The nobles never treated us like humans. Joining the Blood Oracle Guild was the best choice in my life! Killing the rich sons and daughters to make money is better than killing aliens in an unfamiliar world." Alex said, a sword glittering in emerald and amethyst color was stabbed in the ground beside his legs.
It wasn't easy to gain access to items above D-rank. A person needs to make many contributions to his family, kingdom, or military before he is able to get the resources necessary for a C-rank awakened to become powerful and most of the quests and missions are about exploring dangerous unexplored worlds.
Death is very common in those places and Alex had seen many of his comrades die. Thus, he turned to the dark side and joined the Blood Oracle guild.
"Brother is right. With the things we got, we'll be able to return the favor to the guild and still become rich ." Another one of the groups of twenty people said.
The Blood Oracle Guild has dispatched them here to kill the Contestants and loot their items. From that loot, 30% will belong to the guild. This was an outright act of the guild robbing its member but they say this is an act of returning the favor to the guild. It's because they are all criminals and the guild is harboring them, providing them with protection and means to access C-rank and above resources.
Almost all the members aren't satisfied with this condition but they have no other choice. The guild is the only way for them to gain access to resources.
"I say, we should leave the Grand Canyon. We have hunted enough. There are enough treasures for all of us. Staying here might bring more harm than good!" Xavi Zak said while throwing a stick in the bonfire. He had this bad feeling that something adverse was gonna happen to them all, and it wasn't without a reason.
"Zak, do you know what you are saying? We have come this far, why fall back?" Chaim disagreed with Xavi's opinion.
There's no way he was gonna leave this camping site, they were making tons of money everyday and life was good, why leave?
"Bro, are you scared?" Alex asked Xavi.
"What if our actions had angered the heavens of the Monster Tower? From what I know, the tower spirit is a pretty vengeful existence. We'll be hunted down until the very last person! We'll probably lose all of our items upon death. Even our storage rings might drop as loot!" Xavi said. He was fearful of the future.
He wasn't the most intelligent among them, but he was the one with less greed. The others were blinded by their strength and greed but his mind worked just fine enough to notice the threat they might face soon.
Every single one of them had the blood of dozens of contestants on their hands. The more you kill the worse the death penalty. They have killed a lot and their plenty will be severe. Furthermore, the tower spirit will pull a string or two, making their punishment even more severe if they die.
"We have been at it for the past two weeks. The tower spirit still has not sent its dog at us. And the moment a powerful Ruler appears we will make a run for it, that's a good plan. If we run away just from the thoughts of being hunted down then we will never succeed in life!" Chaim said.
"We'll be doing just that. Anyway, the night's soon to arrive. Forget about these disturbing thoughts and gather your mind, we got a hunt to start." Alex said.
In two hours it will be dark. And the time to hunt will begin!
His words excited all the battle maniacs sitting around the bonfire. They were excited at the thoughts of killing contestants soon.
"Let's eat!" Chaim shouted and the group started tearing the cooked meat apart.
Right behind them was a rocky mountain.
They sat at its summit and ate food. They sat in a circle around the bonfire. Eating was pretty common in the monster tower. It's because Monster Tower was extremely lifelike. Everyone feels hungry and feeling tired because of hunger and even death because of starving was also possible. That's why eating was a must.
Although magical beasts pixelate and vanish, leaving behind only items upon their death, it only happens when a contestant kills them. However, when a Porter, Guide, or people born in the tower kills magical beasts, they don't disappear. Thus, their meat can be seen being cooked and sold to others contestants or not on the various floors of the Monster towers.
"I hope that everyone can return safely," Xavi said under his breath before he also started eating.
What ones think never happens and the clouds of death were looming on top of each of their heads; however, they were all unaware of this fact.
The environment was serene but it was about to turn bloody, pretty soon.
